The Office of the Chief Secretary confirmed on Thursday that it has received money from the Central Government to aid with the expenses incurred from the oil spill in February 2024 in Tobago.


The funds were received on Wednesday.

00:00This comes the following Wednesday morning's media conference, where Head of the All-Tobago
00:06Fisher Folk Association Curtis Douglas called for outstanding payments for contractors who
00:11assisted in the oil spill cleanup exercises to be made, and for the intervention of Prime
00:17Minister Dr Keith Rowley.
00:19Chief Secretary Farley Augustine said the Tobago House of Assembly received the $50
00:24million allocated for the oil spill at the mid-term budget after 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
00:31He gave an assurance that the THA will work assiduously to ensure that payments are made
00:37to as many service providers as possible within the shortest practicable time frame.
00:44The Chief Secretary previously stated that the $50 million from central government was
00:49not enough to treat with outstanding monies owed to contractors in Tobago who have been
00:55assisting in Tobago's oil spill cleanup efforts.
00:58The THA previously requested over $100 million from central government.
