00:00Hi, I'm health reporter Sarah McCann. The NHS are warning about a tidal wave of flu infections hitting hospitals

00:08after cases increased by 70% in just seven days.

00:12They are encouraging those eligible to get their flu vaccine in order to avoid what has been dubbed the festive flu.

00:20The number of patients currently in hospital is three and a half times higher than this time last year.

00:27Cases of norovirus and RSV are also on the rise,

00:32fueling concerns about a quaddemic of seasonal illnesses just before the Christmas holidays.

00:39Patients who find themselves unwell are being advised to use NHS 111 in the first instance and to only attend

00:47accident emergency or call 999 if they experience a life-threatening emergency.
