00:00The call sign, or simply put, the unique identification transmitter code for the Telecommunication
00:14Authority of TNT Amateur Radio Station is 9Y20TAT, encapsulating the 20 years the entity
00:21is celebrating as a regulator of the sector.
00:24Chairman of TAT, Gilbert Peterson, Senior Counsel, notes that the first amateur radio
00:28contact made in this country was in 1929 by radio pioneer Colin Fraser, under the call
00:35sign VP4CF.
00:37Today, the amateur radio has evolved into a global community, with more than 3 million
00:45operators worldwide, and there are 600 amateur radio operators in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:51And right here at the authority we recognize that Trinidad and Tobago Amateur Radio Society
00:56helped shape the authority.
00:58This included participating in consultations which saw the birth of TAT and input on policies.
01:04TTAS, headed by Brahmadath Mirage, collaborated on the launch of a 9Y20TAT.
01:10Only this week we were reminded of the importance of communication in a modern day society because
01:16one of the schools in this area, St. George's College, had to be evacuated due to the flooding
01:21in that area.
01:22I'm therefore calling on the amateur radio community to be constantly prepared to assist
01:28in times of national emergencies.
01:32Amateur radio operators remain well poised to contribute to the importance of public
01:37safety in times of disaster.
01:40Chief Executive Officer of TAT, Cynthia Raddock-Downs, says from inception to now, thousands of licenses
01:46have been issued by TAT to amateur radio operators in the country.
01:50The launch of the special event called Sign 9Y20TAT serves as a tribute to the progress
01:56we've made as well as to call all amateur radio operators and enthusiasts to encourage
02:03them to continue to participate in and experience the world of communication in your unique
02:10and exciting way.
02:12She adds that it serves to promote education, innovation and continued collaboration as
02:18TAT seeks to build a sustainable digital future.
02:21Some of TAT's employees are also amateur radio operators.
02:25Raddock-Downs says apart from the efforts of regulators, stakeholders and communities,
02:30the input of the youth is vital to that future.
02:33Students, there's a role for you here too, to lobby for communication or information
02:39technology group or project in your respective school.
02:44The TNT Amateur Radio Society will run the station from various locations on all amateur
