00:00The International Table Tennis Federation World Women's Team Finals Championships set
00:05for April 28th is approaching.
00:07The tournament will feature 64 teams per gender, competing in round-robin groups, followed
00:12by knockout stages leading to the main draw.
00:15When we speak about the top women in table tennis in Trinidad and Tobago, there are a
00:19few names that come to mind that could be up to participate.
00:23The prodigious Chloe Fraser, her rise to the top provides a graceful assurance that big
00:28things are ahead.
00:30Her stamp of approval, coming from her national titles, growing status in the regional arena,
00:35access to qualified French coaching, and self-belief.
00:39She's TNT's highest-ranked female player at present with her 314th ranking.
00:45The tenacious French-based Rian Cheung is next, ranked 510th.
00:49She's known for her never-backed-down personality, evidenced by her boldness to go to court and
00:55win in the name of table tennis.
00:57She shares the same ferocity with her racket in hand.
01:01The 40-year-old is a five-time Caribbean women's singles champion.
01:05In her most recent outing for TNT, she won bronze in the team event at the Caribbean Championships
01:10in 2025.
01:12She's also one of TNT's longest-serving female table tennis players with 27 years of service.
01:19Such devotion is rare in a sport where athletes often carry a financial burden to play the
01:24sport they love.
01:25The other athlete up for consideration would be Jordan Tong, ranked 660th.
01:31Not yet as decorated, but underestimate her at your own risk.
01:35The 17-year-old is coming off of a stunning win over two-time defending champion Imani Edwards-Taylor
01:40to capture the women's division A singles crown to knock off the 2026 table tennis season.
01:47The three athletes, and perhaps the fourth, are being looked at to represent TNT at the
01:51upcoming 2026 ITTF World Women's Team Finals Championships in London from April 28th to
01:59May 10th.
02:00However, it may not be a straightforward road to selecting the team with a tricky criteria
02:05set forward.
02:06The prospectus states that only two players will be given free hospitality in the tournament.
02:11So who will the two be?
02:13As this is a team event, the question will arise of how will expenses be covered for the third
02:18athlete?
02:18And who will foot that bill?
02:21Funding issues have plagued the Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association in the past,
02:25and time is ticking down to the April 8th deadline for modifying the team.
02:30Asked whether or not the team has been confirmed and who will be on the team, President of the
02:36Trinidad and Tobago Table Tennis Association Sharon Babu-Philip stated the team is yet to be finalized.
02:42It's therefore left to be seen who will hold a racket and knock a ball at the 2026 ITTF World
02:50Women's Team Finals Championships in London from April 28th to May 10th.
