After being allowed by the court to walk free, earlier this week, one of the seven discharged officers is speaking out.

The seven men were charged after a viral video showed officers seizing items at a Sangre Grande business.

But, one officer says the video shows them doing their jobs.

And, that they were not charged with extortion.

00:00We got in trouble, a bit like that, for doing our jobs.
00:04One of the seven police officers discharged earlier this week says they were doing the
00:09right thing.
00:10He's speaking out, but asked us not to reveal his identity.
00:14No one was ever charged for any extortion.
00:18Inspector Dayal Ramlakan, Acting Corporal Shaheed Khan, along with police constables
00:24David Anragbir, Jason Osuna, Makai Joseph, Clayton Smith and Rayan Charles were charged
00:30with misbehaviour in public office, and also conspiracy to pervert the course of public
00:37justice.
00:38According to the officer speaking with us, the viral video shows a police operation in
00:43February last year, cracking down on illegal gambling.
00:48He
01:10claims the operation was sanctioned by a senior police officer, and he denies claims that
01:16the officers involved stole some of the money that was seized.
01:36The officer says, from 2022 into 2023, there were legit operations targeting illegal gambling
01:44spots, and that allegations against the officers are part of a conspiracy to get the officers
01:51out of the system and allow illegal gambling to continue.
