I think the most dangerous game now is figuring out which statue is safe next to him.
00:04
Here's your look at the brand-new Diamond Select.
00:06
This is the Marvel's Kraven the Hunter PVC diorama statue.
00:21
Former Russian noble Sergei Kravinov came to America for one reason, to hunt Spider-Man
00:25
the Ultimate Prey.
00:26
Kraven's fighting skills, combined with his mystical strength-enhancing potions from the
00:30
darkest jungles of Africa, made him a prolific gamesman, a legacy that has outlived him.
00:36
Kraven the Hunter's initial pursuit of the wall-crawler gave way to years-long feud,
00:42
and Kraven's repeated failures slowly drove him to the brink of insanity, and eventually
00:46
resulted in his death.
00:48
This gallery diorama of Kraven the Hunter is based on his appearance in Marvel Comics.
00:52
It features detailed sculpting and paint details, and is made of high-quality PVC.
00:56
It was designed by Cesar, and sculpted by Alterton.
01:00
Wow, I can't really speak too much about Kraven's last day.
01:02
I mean, come on, look at this guy.
01:03
If Peter's his prey, the wall-crawler's days are numbered.
01:06
How about before we get down to the details of the new Kraven the Hunter PVC gallery statue,
01:09
I'm going to just go back up a bit and thank the folks over at Diamond that kindly provided
01:14
this sample we could have a look at.
01:16
If you're looking though to hunt down Kraven and add him to your statue's Spidey lineup,
01:20
he should be available right now in comic book stores or online.
01:23
Let's grab that with a tape measure and see how tall he stands, whether it be his last
01:26
stand or not.
01:27
Kraven the Hunter, if you include the mane on the back of his body, is going to give
01:30
us a statue that's 8 inches in height, where the world's greatest hunter is about 19.5
01:35
centimeters tall.
01:36
Kraven first debuted in comics in The Amazing Spider-Man number 15 from August 1964.
01:41
It's also then fitting enough that we're looking at a PVC release of the Hunter, considering
01:44
that we're getting a theatrical release of Kraven the Hunter in theaters soon.
01:48
I can't help but though feel like Kraven's going to probably follow the same successful
01:51
rate as another Spidey villain solo movie with Morbius.
01:54
I feel like if anything, Kraven could have worked a little bit better being an introduced
01:57
villain in one of the Spidey sequels instead.
02:00
While I feel like maybe Sony's going to under-deliver a Kraven the Hunter in theaters, I feel like
02:04
though Diamond on the other hand has over-delivered a comic accurate Kraven the Hunter in PVC
02:09
form.
02:10
Despite being made of plastic though, he's misleadingly heavy.
02:13
It's not till you actually pick up the statue that you realize there's a lot of mass of
02:16
the plastic here.
02:17
Picking it up in fact, actually looking at the bottom of the base, if not for the fact
02:20
that they've covered over the bottom here, this probably would have been hollow plastic.
02:24
And yet though, there's so much mass of plastic and weight that goes along with this.
02:28
The thing I really like first of all about the display base is that they kept the colors
02:31
quite grounded, using again a lot more of the grays, the greens of the moss, and again
02:35
the rooted twigs and branches sticking out from the ground, you have the green of course
02:39
from the plant on the back, and all these additionally cool-looking bamboo rods sticking
02:43
out.
02:44
This contrasts the colors to the yellow and the flesh tone that he has in his body.
02:47
Now again, while looking at the base, there's nothing really at all where I'm looking at
02:51
this and thinking that they've left the sculpt off.
02:53
This is one thing that Diamond does so well when it comes to their gallery statue releases,
02:56
is giving though a subject base that fits then with a character that's on top of it.
03:01
As for the character though on top of it, we get a closer look at Kraven the Hunter.
03:04
He seems quite proud in what he's doing for a job, big sneer across his face.
03:09
His eyes are a little harder to make out though, but despite that you can still see there's
03:12
a lot of talented paint that goes behind the scenes, while all the artists meticulously
03:16
adding the paint to the eyes.
03:18
So as small as they may be, you can still make out that he's got those pupils, very
03:22
large-looking caterpillar eyebrows, a foliage of mustache and beard down below.
03:26
It's a well-sculpted sculpt of Kraven the Hunter.
03:29
I think they've done a nice job on him.
03:31
One of the things of course that go along with Kraven the Hunter is the fact that he
03:33
does have himself a lion's mane vest, which has been nicely colored here.
03:37
You can see though, split it up the middle by his exposed bear chest.
03:41
On one side we've got the lion's face, and on the other side we've got that as well.
03:44
I like the colors that they've added for the eyes, so that the eyes do stand out.
03:48
That from a distance you then start seeing, is there something looking back at me?
03:52
And then you realize that's the lion's eyes.
03:54
Nicely done there.
03:55
Of course the back of the mane as well, starts mostly here in a dark brown, but then they've
03:59
dusted on top of that a lighter coloring of beige.
04:02
It works to a very nice dark contrasting colors that then blend nicely into a lighter colors
04:06
on the top.
04:08
Here's the one issue I have though with the statue, is not necessarily the pose, certainly
04:11
not at all the sculpt for the portrait.
04:13
I feel like it's one thing when they printed on the leopard print for his pants.
04:18
It looks generally clean and spaced out on this one side.
04:21
But then when you get to this leg here, even though it's a straight leg rather than bent,
04:25
it seems like sort of the leopard print gets lost here, as so much that gets so squished
04:29
together, it's hard to kind of make out the print.
04:32
I wish that they could have kept the printing a little bit spaced out like this, so it looked
04:36
a little bit more like this leg than it does on this side here.
04:39
Still despite that though, the print looks very good on it.
04:41
You've got some nice additional yellows that they've added in there as well.
04:44
It looks like they start generally with a lighter yellow, and then they've brushed on
04:46
some little bit more of a warmer yellow, as you can see a few little markings there.
04:51
It's a really nice sculpted statue.
04:53
Of course he does have the spear in his hand.
04:55
Being that this is PVC plastic, you can see there's a little bit also of give.
04:58
I don't think that all the spear would be likely to break, because of course as you
05:01
can see with a little bit of bend that I'm doing right now, PVC plastic is a really good
05:06
entry way to get into statue collecting, because you can get a high-end looking collectible
05:10
without paying the price that goes along with it.
05:13
He has of course the little bands there, the leopard print there wrapped around his bicep,
05:16
has some additional printing here, probably not quite from a leopard, but maybe instead
05:20
from a tiger.
05:21
He seems to be just loving the cat family, so we've got lions represented, we've got
05:25
tigers, no bears unfortunately, but of course we've also got the leopard print.
05:29
Generally for the most part, it looks pretty good.
05:31
He's got some spikes sticking out the back of his belt there as well, all again made
05:34
of PVC plastic, so there's no worry at all that these would break at all.
05:38
It's just a generally a neat looking statue.
05:40
The one thing I really like also about this though, especially seeing it from the side,
05:43
there's a really cool looking pose to this.
05:45
It looks like Craven is hunting his prey through like maybe the foliage of a jungle, and it
05:50
works really quite well.
05:52
One of my favorite things though about the statue is the fact that they added all these
05:54
bamboo rods.
05:55
Easily, they could have just gone with rocks, and they could have just gone with a few bushes
05:59
and plants, but having those little bamboo rods, I feel adds a little bit more character
06:03
to the display base as a whole.
06:05
As a whole though, like I said, it's a great looking statue.
06:08
The only thing I would probably have said as a critique of it is while I do like the
06:12
leopard print on this one side of his leg, it gets a little messier here on the other
06:16
side.
06:17
It kind of looks like they wanted to squish in as many of the leopard print patches as
06:20
they possibly could, and it sort of ends results, the end result of that.
06:23
It kind of looks like it's a little messier on this side.
06:25
Other than that though, it's a really nice Craven the Hunter.
06:27
I don't think we really have a lot of Craven the Hunter PVC gallery statues.
06:30
If this is the first one, just by virtue of that, if the best one we've gotten so far
06:34
from Diamond Select Toys, sure enough, you know me.
06:36
I looked online, and there was in fact a Diamond Select release of Craven the Hunter as a statue
06:40
in 2006.
06:41
The statue though isn't as interesting in this one.
06:44
It basically just had the hunter standing straight on top of a spidey stand with a net
06:48
in his hand, and his other hand was extended out straight.
06:51
I mean, you can look it up online.
06:53
I think really between the two Craven statues, in fact, if those are the only two that we've
06:56
gotten from Diamond, this is by far the superior one.
06:59
Not only from a mold, not only from the way they've posed him, but also as well the paint
07:03
applications.
07:04
There's a lot of good stuff going into this statue, whether you like the look of the main
07:08
vest, for example, that he has, the leopard print in his pants.
07:11
There's just a lot of cool pattern work that they've painted in this piece.
07:14
I mean, again, I keep going back to the display stand, but that's probably one of my favorite
07:18
things about this.
07:19
None of it necessarily takes away from the subject of Craven, but it's one of those stands
07:24
that complement the subject.
07:25
It doesn't have to necessarily compete or take the attention away from it.
07:29
It's just one that works really well with the subject, and again, that being Craven
07:32
the Hunter.
07:33
This spear is also one thing that I like that they put in his hand.
07:36
It just adds a little bit more that gives a story to the statue.
07:39
If you're having to go to a statue and start thinking to yourself, I wonder what he's doing
07:43
right now?
07:44
That is a way of being a successful statue.
07:46
You don't want to just be looking at it and thinking, oh, that's pretty cool.
07:49
But if it brings your eyes in and it wants to make you look at more things on it, that's
07:54
the testament of what Diamond's doing regularly.
07:57
Again, one of the things I do say often on a regular basis is if you ever want to get
08:01
into statue collecting and you don't know where, venture into the idea of collecting
08:04
PVC gallery statues from Diamond Select.
08:07
You get just as much sculpt and paint as what you get with the premium statues, but because
08:11
it's being made in PVC plastic, it's much more affordable to your budget.
08:16
This guy, like I said, is available right now through comic book stores or online.
08:19
I'd like to thank, again, thank the folks over at Diamond Select that did provide this
08:22
sample of the new gallery statue release of Kraven the Hunter.
08:26
Let me know down below in the comments section what you guys think of the statue.
08:29
Let me also know what your feelings are when it comes to solo villain movies.
08:32
I always feel, again, like we don't need to give an entire backstory to these characters.
08:36
I feel like Doc Ock, for example, in the Spider-Man 2, the rainy Spider-Man 2, was just as an
08:41
effective villain without having to have a standalone movie.
08:45
But what do you guys think of it?
08:46
Let me know down below.
08:47
And in the meantime, if you guys did enjoy this video, do it a solid, throw it a like.
08:49
You guys want to stick around for more?
08:51
I hope so.
08:52
Don't forget to subscribe, turn on that bell, and of course, come back.
08:55
If in the meantime, you guys want to check out other things I've looked at for Diamond
08:57
Select, well then, popping up at the very end of this video, you'll be seeing it shortly,
09:02
will be playlists, not only for statues, but also Diamond Select reviews.
09:05
Feel free to watch those playlists if you have a little bit of time on your hands.
09:08
As always, thanks for watching.
09:10
See you guys next time.
