00:00Kia Dolphins are off today as they'll start getting ready for the Buffalo Bills at practice
00:04tomorrow. We'll hear a little bit from Mike McDaniels. We have a Dolphins caller, Marcos,
00:09is he still there? Yes, a seemed like a positive Dolph fan too from South Carolina. All right,
00:17George. Yeah, how you guys doing? Good morning. Good morning to you, sir. How are you? Yeah,
00:24we hear you good. I'm a diehard Dolphin fan. I used to live in Miami long time ago before I
00:32moved up here. I've seen Marino. I've seen Shula. I've seen the good teams that Shula had. When is
00:42Mr. Ross, who's 80 something years old, gonna come to his senses and see that this regime
00:50is not going anywhere? We have Dolphin fans are just tired of it year after year, not only for
00:58fans who live in Miami, but fans that live everywhere and nation all over. We are just
01:04fed up and tired. When is he going to wake up and smell the coffee? Yeah. All right, George.
01:11I'm curious, what would people like him to do?
01:21I'm curious what he's going to do, to be honest. But I'm just saying,
01:29they complain about him being loyal to a fault. And part of it is, if you look at
01:37the successful organizations, they've had patience. There's been years, take it from me,
01:45there's been years where they wanted to run Mike Tomlin out of time. There's still some
01:50Steelers fans that want to run him out of time. Yeah. Patience. I don't know what the answer is.
01:59I don't. But everybody has an opinion on what Stephen Ross and the team and everybody should do.
02:09First, you have to do this. Evaluate what happened.
02:15Get to the root of that problem and then make a decision. And to say that
02:25they shouldn't have gave two of the money. OK, you can say that. The numbers don't prove that.
02:33If you say, why don't we have a backup quarterback? I mean, come on, dude, because that's a fair
02:41criticism. OK, it is. But you have a backup quarterback thinking he can play, hoping he
02:47never has to. And then when he does is when you realize you don't have the right guy.
02:52Understood. But like that's that's the evaluation of it, though, is like you have this guy
02:57and he comes in and just he looks he looks. I mean, he looks at it. Dude, you just saw it.
03:03You're you know, Cleveland just did this with James Winston because he was the fourth guy.
03:08But what do you think is the fourth guy? Last year, the fourth guy is the fourth guy.
03:13I don't understand that. Sean and two other quarterbacks played before he did.
03:18Well, I mean, who else played before him? You had Thompson. He played this year. Yeah.
03:26He started a couple of games. He did this year. Are you talking last year? This year.
03:32And then they put another quarterback in when they swapped him out and then they put Jamison.
03:42Well, Jamison is the most credentialed guy, though. So.
03:45Well, Jamison is the most credentialed guy, though. Same thing. But again, like.
03:53If you're calling your team's failings on the fact they don't have a backup quarterback,
04:01then you're no. Now, I will say this.
04:08If there's any complaint that I have of this, the current construct of this team is this.
04:15They're too old. You don't have any young talent, all of your young talent you couldn't afford
04:24because of all the trades you made, bringing in all the old talent and the people who aren't
04:30playing aren't your young talent. It's your old talent that you're paying a lot of money to.
04:36That you're paying a lot of money to. Okay. Just for the record, though,
04:39Dorian Thompson, like he came in the game that that just got hurt.
04:42And then he started another game. No, he didn't. Not this year. I just looked. Okay. He started
04:48before, but not this year. Remember, they went through more of those changes last year when they
04:52ended up with Flacco. And I just say with the Dolphins, that is a miss. It's a miss evaluation.
05:02That's all that the guy they thought, because you're basing your opinion on the guy never
05:09playing. Well, the thing that's just, it's because everybody is like, and he did play last year.
05:17That was two years ago. He didn't play last year because Mike White was the backup.
05:22Right. But no, I think that that's 100% a valid criticism for them on your backup quarterback.
05:31Yeah, because you're so, so the biggest critique onto it. Okay. Is that he's injury prone and you
05:40need to have that. You need to have that squared away. You do. They misfired on it. It's a miss
05:47and that's their job. Okay. Okay. That is a bad, a bad decision. That's it. We want to fire
05:57everybody for that. Well, no, I think you want to fire everybody. I think people want to fire
06:01everybody because they're two and five right now. And they, and they, and I get that. Okay.
06:08But you do realize you're going to have the same enthusiasm for the next coach. For sure. I mean,
06:15look, look, and, and, and things might not go smoothly right away. How long are you going to
06:21keep having this cycle? Because while you're blaming the ownership and whatever the cycle
06:29itself, keep turning the cycle over and the organization over in the people over that is
06:36also a reason why you can't have any long-term success. Yeah. But Chris has been in the front
06:40office since 2000, dude. Okay. Yes, he has like, and I'm not, again, if you want to have a complaint,
06:49I told you what the complaint is. They're too old. Then you, anytime you've drafted anybody
06:54good, you couldn't afford to keep them. There's too old. And the guy has a huge
06:58flaw as a general manager, which is he doesn't give a rat's ass about signing injury prone players.
07:03Right. And that's not even just a two of thing. Like he's just like that. And he always thinks
07:08it's like, ah, it's not going to buy us in the ass. It's like, okay, but it probably is. This
07:11is a very violent sport. So my, my question into you, what would you have done differently
07:21for this year? Yes. I think that I didn't like the approach with the draft and then saying like, Oh,
07:30we had this offensive line on lock. We were laughing at everybody.
07:35Obviously the line's not the problem though. Hold on though. They, they went into this year
07:39and they had two issues that they were going to have. One is they had two star pass rushers
07:44injured. They had one that they could have had at a bargain. Yes. Agree. Stupid. Agree. We complained
07:54about that when it happened, they ended up signing Shaq Barrett who retired. Right. And thankfully
08:01Emmanuel Ogden didn't want to go anywhere else. And he goes, I'll just wait. They'll come back.
08:05Thankfully. But, but, but letting Van Gink's walk. Oh my God. Was that stupid?
08:10Yeah. We said it at the time. Wait, old line is the problem. Online is not the problem.
08:17Oh, line is not the problem. There were games where it was a problem. And the other thing is
08:21there were games where it wasn't. Yeah, sure. Like that, but that's not like normal football.
08:28Understood. I would have liked them to go and get an offensive lineman that could play this year.
08:33Like, and that's, I don't know if Patrick Paul can play or not, but I know that at all of this
08:37team that just spent a lot of money on everybody would like to get some draft contributions,
08:41like right away from somebody and like Tampa drafted a kid who's playing right away.
08:47You know, I just, I, I, I would agree. I would agree with that in the last,
08:53well, I'm not going to count a Noah Igman. Here's why that was the third first round pick, right?
08:59Yes. So they took a fly, took a flight. Okay. And the other two actually,
09:05um, was that the Chris Wilkins, um, to, uh, an Austin Jackson to announce that still on the team.
09:12Yep. Okay. So like, I, I do have questions about cam Smith, like how long, you know,
09:24he was drafting the second round. Yeah. He was their first pick last year.
09:28How long should he, how long should it be before he's contributing? I don't know that, you know,
09:35like, I don't know. And I don't know, like, I tell you one thing, like it's really hard
09:40because they threw chop Robinson in an awful situation because he didn't have any time to
09:45develop or whatever. He had to start right away, but they knew this beforehand, right?
09:51This is not see, but this is the thing. That's the point. That's the point that I would make is
09:57you know, we all summer, all summer, we had this argument. I'm like, I have crushed questions about
10:05the rush outside. Oh, Taylor Phillips being science. That was the, that was the argument
10:11we had instead of the real argument. He did. He did beat science instead of the real argument
10:16though. The real argument was what are they going to do at pass rush chop Robinson? Yeah.
10:23Eventually he will get there. You can't afford that right now.
10:28These are the decisions that I would have liked to have been made is that understanding where you
10:34are and not where you're going to be, because you're never going to get where you're going to
10:39be. If you don't take care now. And when those two guys got hurt, the first guy I would assign
10:47before the draft, before anything is Andrew Vanging. A hundred percent. So had you had an
10:54opportunity to kind of do something to accommodate your circumstances and you didn't do it. You
11:04relied on whatever. And the other thing is like, what, what, like, uh, was it like that? Andrew
11:11didn't even get an offer for that. Like, how did you put more effort into signing Odell Beckham
11:16jr. Correct. Whoever meeting Odell, will you come back, please? Can we convince him? Always
11:20like I don't need football. I don't think I'm going to be ready. We won't tell anybody that
11:25you're not going to be ready. Bye man. Ginkgo. Enjoy me the soda with the cold. Sorry, but,
11:37but again, so yes, you don't have to be so disgusted with me. Froggy.
11:43It's just, you're making points.
11:51When did he sign? If he's not German, what else would he be?
11:57Uh, potentially Asian from his, his, uh, HBO pass his HBO name.
12:03This is, isn't he, didn't he go to Wisconsin? He did go to Wisconsin.
12:07So he's probably, yeah. If you're from the Midwest, it's possible you could be German.
12:11That dude definitely got leader hosing when he was in Germany last year.
12:18He's from Wisconsin, right? Iowa, Iowa, Iowa. There's no, there's no German Iowans. You don't
12:28know that. Whoa. I've been to Iowa. There ain't nothing in Iowa, but corn. It goes corn, corn,
12:35university stadium, a hotel where we can stay. Damien says he's Dutch. Oh,
12:45no, don't, don't do it. Don't do it. You're trying to make yourself wait.
12:50He's trying to make himself right.
12:52What was the clogs?
12:59Capitalized says he's Swedish. Okay. Everyone's just making things up now. You know,
13:04Swedish TV was in the heat locker room yesterday. They were interviewing Pella Larson.
13:08No, Jimmy public goes, come on, stop talking.
13:12So like, regardless of all the other problems, right. I would say the glaring issue that I had
13:34before the season started. And I mentioned it all summer, the pass rush.
13:43We talked about it every and you're like, don't worry about it.
13:46Jalen Phillips would be back. I definitely thought that I thought Bradley Joe would be
13:49back by now too. I didn't know, but that's okay. Thinking somebody's going to be back
13:55and actually having a plan or two different things. I'm not the general manager.
14:00I don't know. I know, but I'm just saying that. And here's the other thing.
14:07The defense hasn't been terrible. It hasn't been, but you know,
14:13they've taken on some awful quarterbacks. No, don't do that. They did do it, but we weren't,
14:20we weren't doing that at the time, but dude, it's the truth. We're, we're,
14:24we're looking at everything now. I understand, but that's the truth is that they've taken on
14:30bad quarterbacks. Okay. I mean, is it safe to say that
14:38if I could give you one do-over on the team, I know what would it be?
14:50One do-over. One do-over.
