A lone Trinbagonian was selected out of millions of players across North and Latin America, for a chance to qualify for the Mobile Game, PUBG’s Global Championship.

And while after a month of intense competition in Brazil his team did not make it through, the teenager from Debe says he’s ready to try again.

When our reporter Cindy Raghubar-Teekersingh met him on Friday, days after his return home, he gave some insight into how he has been able to properly balance life both on and off- line.

00:00PUBG Battlegrounds is ranked as one of the top mobile games globally with tens of millions
00:07of players and its developers host an annual global championship with just some of the
00:13game's best players.
00:15But to get into the finals, six regions hold individual PUBG Mobile Super Leagues to select
00:21top regional teams to represent them.
00:24For the Americas, that PMSL recently concluded in Brazil, and one Trinidadian was among 65
00:32players chosen based on their performance in the game.
00:36The 19-year-old computer science undergrad student from Debay, Nishad Rampasad, goes
00:43by the screen name Casper.
00:54He was one of four players of a North American team.
01:08In the end of the month-long qualifier, they placed 10th out of 16 teams and will not make
01:15it into the December finals in London, where US$3 million is up for grabs and prizes.
01:22But he says the experience was like none other, and it has motivated him to work even
01:28harder for a second chance next year.
01:31Meanwhile, the teen says he is aware that some parents discourage gaming, but says it
01:38can present the possibility of travel, monetary reward and other opportunities if taken seriously.
02:04He says time management is key for him.
02:07He learned to work his gaming around his school and exam schedules, so that none suffered.
02:33His parents say at first they were sceptical, but opened up to the idea of a gamer son
02:39when they realized just how well he was doing and through the offers he started to receive.
03:09His parents say Nishad started gaming heavily during COVID as a coping mechanism.
03:15And while it worked for him, parents are right to be cautious about gaming, as not all children
03:21may be able to manage it well.
03:40This is not for everyone, you know, some children would not have the ability to have that balance you know, and you have to have a relationship with your child and you have to know what they are doing, you know, because I mean it's the internet out there, you know, and you don't know who you could meet up, right, and your child also have to be strong, and also have to be honest with you, and that's what we have.
