Alicia Boucher has more in this report.

00:00Roxanne's Learning and Child Care Center has been closed since Wednesday after a
00:04shooting in the early hours of Wednesday morning led to the deaths of two people
00:08and caused injury to three others including a four-year-old child. The
00:13school is supposed to be a safe space and has been prior to the incident and
00:17is described by a member of Parliament for Laventille East Mova, Adrian Leonce,
00:22has a pillar in the community that has been around for 40 years. He says a lot
00:27of trauma is being felt at the preschool by both children and staff
00:31alike and we are here to give that that support. We also are organizing to get
00:40some temporary relocation while the trauma is ongoing. We already contacted
00:45two places and we're waiting on some feedback. I know the TTPS has also
00:50contacted the principal and to get some parents and the students to get some
00:57counseling. Leonce tells us alternative counseling has also been discussed
01:01following the session with a TTPS. The school's administrator Roxanne King
01:06admits that the incident was highly traumatic and based on the time it
01:11occurred she tells us the situation could have been worse. Because not only
01:15our parents was dropping and picking up, we had children from the nearby primary
01:20school and secondary schools in the community, they were on their way to and
01:24from a taxi stopping and picking up and it was traumatizing. While King
01:31confirms that one of the men who got shot did run under the compound of the
01:35school, she is seeking to dispel misinformation she states is circulating.
01:40He did not die as it is on social media. Nobody died in this school. King is
01:45thankful for the support she says the school has received since the tragic
01:49incident locally, regionally and internationally. She believes the school
01:54will emerge from what has occurred and she gives an assurance that it is not
01:58the end of the institution. According to her, the children impacted by the
02:02incident are all coping and are eager to return to school. Meanwhile Leonce is
02:07making a call to the powers that be. We would require some additional presence,
02:12some police presence and we would even like if someone could be stationed close
02:18by, both in the 7th Avenue area and in the 6th Avenue area, just for the period of
02:25while all of this is happening.
