The Prime Minister has issued a Republic Day appeal to parents and guardians., to change the atmosphere and the mood in their homes.... and create a warm culture of love and responsibility

00:00Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says that as Trinidad and Tobago celebrates its 48th year
00:06as a republic on Tuesday, quote, we can all say that this country stands proudly as a
00:12nation established firmly as a respected member on the world stage and in equal partnership
00:19among all other nations, unquote.
00:21In his Republic Day message, the Prime Minister says that on another part of the world stage,
00:27Trinidad and Tobago just successfully completed its term in the Presidency of the United Nations
00:33General Assembly.
00:34Dr Rowley publicly congratulated Ambassador Dennis Francis, who represented Trinidad and
00:39Tobago in the chair of that UN body.
00:43The Prime Minister listed Trinidad and Tobago's world-class achievements.
00:47Dr Rowley said these include the establishment of the world's first natural gas-based economy,
00:53the sporting accomplishments of Hazel Crawford, Kishon Wolcott, Brian Lara, Kieron Pollard,
00:59Duane Bravo, Sunil Narine and others, accomplishments in literature and art, and the invention of
01:05the steel pan.
01:07But the Prime Minister also said recently a dark side of Trinidad and Tobago has emerged
01:12as he added that daily media reports are revealing incidents of crime which are spreading haunting
01:18fears among us.
01:19The Prime Minister said his administration has responded with a significant proportion
01:24of national budgetary expenditures spent annually on fighting crime.
01:29Dr Rowley then said, quote, we must support our police service and other security agencies
01:35in their efforts to protect and preserve our accomplishments.
01:39To allay public fears, the police service is now required to be more inventive and forceful
01:45in their responses, unquote.
01:47The Prime Minister then issued an appeal to parents and guardians to change the atmosphere
01:52and the mood in their homes, create a warm culture of love and responsibility, and let
01:58their children take love to school every day, and let love in their homes transform our
02:06community.
