00:00A 24-year-old boy put up an ad to sell online air conditioners and got robbed of 50,000
00:15bucks.
00:16Using instant payments and deepfake tech, a 73-year-old man in Kerala was fined 40,000
00:23bucks.
00:24Deepfake personas like Anita Bachchan, Anushka Sharma, Ratan Tata, and even Sachin Tendulkar
00:31have been reported in recent times.
00:35According to an annual report by RBI in 2024, people lost Rs 1,400 crore due to digital payment
00:43frauds.
00:44Welcome to Tech Know by Nazariya, I am Ashish Chhatre and I am pretty sure that my majority
01:02audience is using UPI to save both their time and money.
01:08Well done.
01:09But in today's video, we will talk about the other side of the coin.
01:13We will talk about UPI scams.
01:16UPI, Unified Payment Interface, was introduced in 2016, which has turned small and big transactions
01:22into a snap of a finger.
01:25But as we are getting updated, so are thieves, robbers, and robbers.
01:31One wrong click of yours can make you bankrupt.
01:35All your sensitive data, including your bank details and personal information, can be
01:40seized by scammers.
01:42No, we don't intend to scare you.
01:46Believe us, it is very easy to escape these scammers.
01:49Actually, these people take advantage of your panic.
01:52So rule number one is, don't panic at all.
01:5624-year-old Abhishek Mishra made his ad on a digital platform to sell his AC online.
02:03After a while, a man calls him, who claims to be from the army.
02:09He even shares a fake ID to win his trust.
02:13Mishra believed him, and he shared his UPI ID on the instigation of this mysterious man.
02:19The commotion happened when after three attempts, his account was cut by Rs. 50,000.
02:25In fact, a situation was created where he shared his UPI pin instead of the OTP password.
02:32Please, if you are in overconfidence that it can never happen to me, then beware.
02:38In maximum cases, a pseudo-urgency is created so that a person can make a wrong decision in panic.
02:44So remember the first rule, I repeat, never ever panic.
02:49Recently, scammers have advanced further by using AI-powered voice cloning and deepfake.
02:55For example, take the case of a 73-year-old man from Kerala.
02:58He gets a distress call from an old friend.
03:01The face and voice of the person in the video call are exactly like his friend.
03:06He asked for Rs. 40,000 and that businessman transferred his UPI as a token of humanity.
03:12Sad, right?
03:14Let's get to know some common types of UPI scams.
03:183. Phishing Links
03:20You get a link in SMS or email, which looks genuine.
03:25But as soon as you click on it, scammers steal your login details.
03:302. Remote Access Scams
03:32You get a call and it is said that there is a problem in your account.
03:36A remote access app is installed from you, by which scammers hack your phone.
03:431. QR Code Scams
03:45This is the most common.
03:47You scan the QR code, but instead of receiving money, it is deducted from your account.
03:53I am adding a link in the description of this video for other scam techniques that scammers use.
03:59So do refer to it.
04:01Prevention is better than cure.
04:03How to be cautious?
04:05Now the question is how to avoid these scams?
04:09Friends, prevention is always better than cure.
04:12Never click on any link or QR code without thinking twice.
04:17Do not share your personal information or OTP with any caller, even if they claim to be your bank.
04:24Do not install any unauthorized app on your phone at anyone's behest.
04:28If you feel that something is going wrong, contact your bank immediately.
04:33Remember, scammers take advantage of your confusion and panic.
04:38So always stay alert.
04:40What to do if you are scammed?
04:42Assume that unfortunately you become a victim of these scams.
04:47So don't worry.
04:48First of all, report your bank and UPI provider.
04:52Most of the time, they can freeze the transaction if it is reported quickly.
04:56You can also call Cybercrime Helpline No. 1930 or Cybercrime.gov.in to file a report.
05:05Also, take screenshots of all the tracks from your phone and save them.
05:13The government is also taking steps against these scams.
05:16Reserve Bank of India has launched multiple initiatives in recent years.
05:21Such as Safe Banking Practices Campaigns and 24x7 Helpline Numbers.
05:27New Cybersecurity Laws are also being proposed, which can be even stricter in the coming days.
05:33Nazaria for a safer future.
05:35Friends, now let's talk about what UPI platforms and the government can do.
05:42In my opinion, implementation of real-time scam detection algorithms is very important.
05:48This can detect suspicious activities as before.
05:51And those who are not digitally educated should run awareness campaigns and educational drives for them.
05:59As a responsible citizen, you can inform your parents and colleagues.
06:04So please share this video in your circles who need it.
