00:00The Shah Alam Coroner Court has held that a Kajang prison inmate serving his sentence
00:06for murder died of natural causes three years ago.
00:11Coroner Rashiha Ghazali held that K. Rupen died of pulmonary embolism, which originated
00:16from a blood clot in his left leg.
00:19However, she said the court was unable to identify the cause of the blood clot.
00:25Rashiha ruled out any suggestion that Rupen's death was caused by the negligence of prison
00:30officers or doctors.
00:32A day before his death, on June 21, 2021, Rupen was discharged from Kajang Hospital
00:38where he had been administered a D-dimer test to check if he had a blood clotting disorder.
00:44The court previously heard that Rupen's D-dimer reading was 17.97, far higher than a normal
00:50reading of 0.5.
00:53T. Shashi Devan, the family lawyer, said Rupen's reading alone should have prompted
00:58a CT scan.
