00:00support those posterior structures. I'm going to sweep around and then we're going to bring the
00:07foot up and out to support this anterior ligament again crossing the joint onto that malleolus
00:16sweeping around. Have you ever had a sprained ankle? Well a group of local physiotherapists,
00:22massage therapists and personal trainers were given a master class on how to wrap dynamic
00:27taper for the treatment of such injuries and to support muscle mobility. It was conducted
00:33by its founder Ryan Kendrick. For the group here it's recognizing that this is very different to
00:41what we've done with traditional tapes and that there's lots of opportunities here to help people
00:46manage the load but also to change people's function. So how do the participants intend
00:52to use it? I work with a lot of children and a lot of persons with disabled
00:58postural dysfunctions. It had not been dynamic tape what were you using before?
01:04Normal taping. How effective do you think that was?
01:13It works you know because you use what you have but you're always looking for room for
01:18improvement. Well the dynamic tape works more with biomechanical and some biomotor functions
01:26so this will help us or help Trinidad and Tobago teams in the future to really use the tape and
01:35have the athletes have a better function and release a little more loading on their injuries.
01:43However is taping a solution for mechanical imbalances in the human body like pronation?
01:49Pronation may be an issue in some people at some times. Do we go and look at everybody who
01:56who pronate a lot or have flat feet or whatever you want to call it and do we go and tape them
02:00all up? No. Some people have functioned in that way their entire life in fact that might be what's
02:06allowing them to perform at the level that that they do. That said if somebody has say stress
02:13fractures in their shins and that movement is causing excessive loading on those shins then
02:21we may for a period of time come in and we might tape them to reduce the load on there reduce the
02:25way that they're pronating. Seminar organizer Brent Elder believes that the event did its part in
02:30expanding the knowledge base of local practitioners on what's out there and says there will be more
02:35to come. The thing about it what I realized with us in Trinidad and Tobago sometimes we have to
02:41tweak things a little bit. I was expecting to see a lot more physiotherapists some of the sport
02:47doctors other persons who might be chiropractors and so on but because of our unique demographics
02:55now and some persons who did not who would say that they did not know they can always catch it
03:00second time around. For now though it's a growing field of sport that's being explored to maximize
03:05the potential of athletes. Sergio Dufour, TV6 Sport.
