The Tunapuna Piarco Regional Corporation is hailing its Independence Day Celebrations this year as a huge success. The TPRC states that it exceeded expectations.


The Corporation is also looking forward to a complete upgrade of the Eddie Hart Grounds which will begin in January 2025.

00:00Daylight saw fun for the children and at night, an array of entertainment catered to a wider
00:05age range.
00:06It was all part of the Tunapuna-Piaka Regional Corporation's second annual Independence
00:10Day celebrations at the Etihad Grounds.
00:13This was actually an immense success as we had over 10,000 patrons in attendance.
00:23We showcased what the region is really made of.
00:26It was a grand showing, much bigger than last year's, and we had a mix of culture through
00:34gospel, through soca, through tassa, chutney, rhythm section, a 20-minute display of firewood.
00:45Chairman of the TPRC Josiah Austin tells us that in addition, there were some of the big
00:50names in the steelpan industry such as Exodus, Supernovas, Shizando and Trinidad All-Stars.
00:57The blending of both elements, according to him, was well-received by attendees.
01:02Austin says the number of patrons actually doubled this year, a sign, he tells us, that
01:07the region is coming alive.
01:10The TPRC chairman is expressing gratitude that Corporate TNT came on board to assist
01:15And in terms of the cost to host the event, he states that it is still being tallied.
01:20He also reveals that plans are being made to explore ways to better manage the traffic
01:25situation that occurred, despite parking at the Tunapuna Racket Center and the opening
01:30of the priority bus route on that day.
01:33The TPRC is happy that a proposal it submitted for a full upgrade of the Etihad Grounds has
01:39been accepted by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
01:42This commences in January, side visits were done last week, Udicut will be the ones spearheading
01:49this process, and this upgrade includes a new state-of-the-art pavilion, new cricket
01:56nets, replanting of the ground, additional state-of-the-art grass track, running track
02:04that is, and several other upgrades.
02:06The pavilion will have seating for 1,500 people.
02:10Additional facilities include a first aid room, multi-purpose and training rooms, storage
02:15rooms and public washrooms.
02:18Estimated time for completion is a year to 15 months.
