The Port of Spain City Corporation is eagerly awaiting the government's 2025 / 2026 fiscal plan.


It expresses hope that the allocations it is given will allow it to continue to develop the Capital City.

00:00According to Mayor of Port of Spain, Chinua Allen, the city corporation has been working to continue advancements in the city.
00:07And the corporation joins the many who are waiting with bated breath to see what the 2025-2026 budget,
00:14the first to be presented by the new United National Congress Administration, will bring.
00:19In the next month, the government will be taking to the parliament the appropriation bill for the budget for fiscal 26.
00:27We look forward to seeing and hearing in the budget debate what allocations have been made available to the city of Port of Spain
00:38so that we can continue on the developmental path that we've embarked upon.
00:45Over the course of the last two years, we've spent a significant amount of our efforts here in City Hall
00:51in engaging in some reform in some areas of our operation.
00:56Among these areas, Mayor Allen cites fiscal reform and changes in the processes of the corporation.
01:03So that we can improve the delivery of goods and services to the people of Port of Spain.
01:09One of the areas where we have had significant challenges in delivering goods and services to our burgesses
01:17has been in the area of garbage collection.
01:20It is an area that we have been presented with some significant challenges
01:25and we have had to use our resources, redeploy our resources in a way
01:34so that we could overcome the challenges that arise from time to time.
01:39It's an issue Allen states that he will be addressing more in-depth and publicly early in the week ahead.
01:44He states that this will entail the actual challenges and the decision taken by the Port of Spain City Council.
01:52The mayor has also spoken to events that are to be held in the city under the cooperation for the year 2026.
01:58We know that there are several activities that happen in the city in the year to come
02:04and that preparations for those activities have already taken place.
02:08For the last two months, we just came out of Steelpan Month in the month of August.
02:15We celebrated Republic Day yesterday and we celebrated it in collaboration with Invaders Steel Orchestra
02:21as they hosted their Steelpan event in the city, Invaders Jube.
02:25Going forward, we have several activities that will be happening in the city
02:29and the major festival that is forthcoming would be the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival 2026
02:38that is happening at the beginning of next year.
02:42The mayor says preparations for that are already underway
02:45and more will be revealed by the Downtown Carnival Committee in the not-too-distant future.
