Hi all, my name is Jack Marshall, reporter with Lancashire Post. Welcome to our latest
00:09
video in the LPE's review series. Now, as we've said before, we've covered kind of like
00:15
a range of different burger places so far in the series because we really want to try
00:19
a wide spectrum of different types of establishments, you know, from the newer stuff to the classic,
00:25
you know, local beloved places to kind of like proper takeaways because you've got to
00:29
give each place a chance. We've even give Mackey's a chance, even though they fell down
00:34
pretty severely on the scores front. But yeah, we're giving a different kind of like wide
00:39
variation, different places a go to kind of like see which places really tickle our fancy.
00:44
So today we're heading down to a place called Fast and Fresh on Church Street, see what
00:48
it's like, really got high hopes for this one. It's going to be a proper takeaway burger
00:52
so I'm expecting, like we said, with a couple we've done so far. So yeah, high hopes for
00:56
this one. Let's go see what it's like.
01:05
Hi guys, my name's Jack Marshall. Last time I left you, I was just heading in to Fresh
01:10
and Fast in Preston. I believe I actually called it Fast and Fresh. So I've been mixing
01:15
that up. But anyway, apologies on that front. Fresh and Fast, heading down there to grab
01:18
myself a burger. Now, first thing I'm going to cover is the vibe of the place. Really
01:22
good, really bustling, loads of people in there, really nice to see like a proper local
01:26
independent joint like that doing well. So they get a four out of five for me on that
01:30
front. It was just yeah, it was good. It was nice, not the biggest premises, but they were
01:35
doing a kind of roaring trade on the day. So that was nice to see. So really positive
01:39
on that front. Yeah, on to the burger itself next. I kind of went for one of their burgers.
01:44
They kind of do these signature burgers with different flavourings and stuff. So I went
01:47
for one of those. I'm really excited for it. That's the no salad. So I'm going to bear
01:51
that in mind when I come to Scotland, the extras. But that's the no salad because I really want to
01:54
see what this kind of like marinade on the meat and in the sauce kind of tasted like.
02:01
So the meat itself, I was a little underwhelmed by the meat. It was a thick beef patty, really,
02:05
really kind of like substantial. But it just lacked that proper beefy punch. It was a bit
02:11
bland. It didn't really have like a kick to it, a beefy flavour with juiciness and that kind of
02:16
stuff. It was it was moist and it was it was large. But I don't know, like I say, it was just
02:21
lacking that. When you talk about like a quintessential burger, a properly classic beef burger,
02:27
it didn't really have the attributes I'm looking for. So I'm going two out of five on the burger
02:30
front. Moisture wise, it was it was covered in sauce. It was like slopping in this sauce,
02:37
which was really tasty. It was covered in a bit of melted cheese as well. But like I say,
02:41
the moisture was mostly just kind of external in the sense that it wasn't really from the meat
02:46
and stuff like that incorporated into the sandwich. It was just covered in sauce,
02:50
which was nice. But they clearly just like slathered this thing in it. So, yeah, I'm giving
02:56
him a three point five on the moisture because it was really, really moist. There was no dry bites,
02:59
but it was almost like it got to the point where the burger was slipping off the bun.
03:03
There was so much sauce on there. So slightly marked down for that because it almost wasn't
03:08
incorporated. It was like it's falling apart. It was so, so wet. Extras, like I say, I'm not
03:12
going to mark them down because I spent no salad. I did purposefully do that. So I'm mainly covering
03:17
the sauce itself. Now the sauce was nice. It was good. A very tiny different flavor to it.
03:22
So it was that was really good. That was a nice aspect to it all. I'm giving a three point five
03:26
out of five for the extras. I suppose for something like this, maybe a side of fries
03:31
just to come with it. That would have been beneficial and stuff like that. Also, the
03:36
melted cheese that was on there, there wasn't that much of it and it didn't really add anything
03:39
to it because it was taken off and I wouldn't have been told. So maybe that's just another point to
03:45
make. And then finally, we come into the value. This thing cost me six pounds, which it was a big,
03:52
big bit of beef burger. So that was good. I'm giving him a three out of five for the value.
03:56
It was it was a big bit of kit. It filled me up. It was. Yeah, there was plenty to it.
04:02
Kind of like a pretty decent price for for what you were getting. Quality didn't blow me away.
04:08
It was nice. It was a good burger, but it didn't blow me away. I wasn't kind of like, you know,
04:13
my socks knocked off or anything like that. So, yeah, I'm going three out of five on that, which
04:16
gives a total score of 16 out of 25, which is a very solid score from fresh and fast.
04:23
I'm getting myself mixed up with that again. I'm forever going to call it fast and fresh,
04:26
fresh and fast. So, yeah, thanks for watching. Really appreciate that. Stay tuned for next week.
04:30
I'm going to be heading down to another one of Preston's local burger joints
04:33
and see what we can see there. Cheers.
