The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, was asked by local democracy reporter Paul Faulkner about the dip in support for Labour in Lancashire between last year's general election and this year's local vote.
00:00To just take you very briefly back to the general election last year, your victory was as strong in Lancashire as anywhere.
00:06It looked at that point like the then opposition group on Lancashire County Council were eschewing to win that election in May just gone.
00:13But what actually happened was they were decimated and reform took control, more independents were elected than Labour.
00:20Haven't you got to consider that that's a verdict on your first year in power and what would you do to reflect on that and persuade people to come back to you?
00:28We inherited 14 years of complete failure and I always said that it would take us time to turn that around and it will take us time to turn that around.
00:36I do understand that people are frustrated but I do want to say this to everybody in Lancashire because if you want to win orders like this with countries like Turkey because we're leading NATO countries, you have to be a leading NATO country.
00:53You have to be strong on defence and security and the biggest challenge for NATO at the moment is the conflict in Ukraine.
00:59Reform are Putin friendly.
01:02There is no way these orders could be won with a reformed government and these jobs that are now going to be here for 10 years in Lancashire simply wouldn't be here because reform would be an absolute disaster for defence and security of our country.
