00:00Alright, hi people, it's Jake Sarum here, it's a deal, and I'm unboxing for you guys
00:04today of Doctor Who, the Complete David Tennant Collection.
00:06Now why do I have this when I have the previous two 2013 Blu-rays?
00:12Basically it's because this set features basically everything that you could want in terms of
00:17the initial David Tennant era, from late 2005 to early 2010, including two of the episodes
00:27of the Sarah Jane Adventures that David Tennant was in, that took place during the David Tennant
00:35specials, which funnily enough he filmed after he filmed the second part of The End of Time
00:43and everything, at least I'm pretty sure that's the name of the episodes, but yeah.
00:50And on top of that, in terms of all the content, it features all of the deleted scenes and
00:56bloopers, special features otherwise and whatever, from the initial DVD releases, I'm
01:03not sure about the US DVDs, but definitely the UK DVDs, they put them on here, that's
01:09really cool, because apparently, for some reason they didn't for the initial 2013 DVDs
01:17or Blu-rays that they put out, I don't understand why, so they put this set out to have all
01:23those special features.
01:24What I don't understand as well is after this, why they didn't put out the Matt Smith
01:31years, the Peter Capaldi years, and I guess eventually the Jodie Whittaker years, compilation
01:38Blu-rays that they already have, I don't understand why they just don't repackage those into normal
01:42Blu-ray cases like they did this.
01:45So yeah, because they initially did this, I think in a DVD set, that was in this booklet
01:51thing that they then did in addition, that was for Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi, in the
01:57same kind of packaging and style and everything.
02:00So yeah, I just don't understand that, but yeah, I mainly wanted to get this because
02:05it has everything, mainly because I also wanted that uncut blooper, extended scene, whatever,
02:17of David Tennant just monologuing to the camera for a part in Family of Blood and Human Nature
02:24two-parter, where he's listing off the different things for Martha to know, and they have that
02:29extended sequence of him just rambling, just him retroscripting and improvising stuff in
02:37between certain lines, so they have extra footage to fast-forward over for that episode.
02:44So yeah, but it's also really good just to have this.
02:48So yeah, unfortunately, I believe these are the same masters that were put on the 2013
02:53Blu-ray, so they are the US versions of the episodes, so they're slowed down to 24fps,
03:00and then whatever else.
03:03It's funny because they also put the Time Crash short on this, it is the NTSC version
03:10that's slowed down to 24fps.
03:12Meanwhile, I think it's the first Peter Davidson set from the classic who's here, or Blu-rays,
03:19they put the original 25fps version on that.
03:25So when I rip the discs to my computer, I technically have two different versions of
03:30the same thing, just in different framerates, so it's really weird, but yeah.
03:37So on the front here, you have David Tennant standing in front of a space backdrop, which
03:42looks pretty cool.
03:43You have the Doctor Who logo, which is the Jodie Whittaker-era logo, which I hate with
03:48a passion, but yeah, the David Tennant collection.
03:54I just hate it being on stuff from the eras that she was not a part of, when they retroactively
04:00added it to a bunch of things.
04:01They even added it to the iTunes release, or Apple Movies and TV releases of the shows,
04:11so, or the seasons, so I just hate that, I really do, and they have it on the classic
04:15who Blu-rays, and I hate that.
04:18But yeah, 14-disc set, and I know it's probably just mainly for brand recognition, but it's
04:25still stupid.
04:27But yeah, BBC Doctor Who, complete David Tennant collection, 14-disc set and everything, same
04:33stuff on the other side.
04:35In the back, you got some screenshots from some of the episodes, and then a description
04:41of the set, special features, Doctor Who confidential, video diaries, commentary, delete scenes,
04:47outtakes, children in need specials, and more, plus the animated specials.
04:52This is also a thing I forgot to mention as well.
04:54So there was a previous DVD set of animated stuff, I think it was called the Animated
04:59Collection that I did an unboxing of, that had standard-def versions of the two David
05:04Tennant animated episodes, Dreamland, and I forget what the other one's called.
05:12But they were only in standard definition on that.
05:15Here they are presented in HD.
05:18Unfortunately, the one I can't remember the name of, wow, I'm an idiot, so this is what
05:25I'm talking about, The Infinite Quest.
05:28The Infinite Quest was only saved at 720p, and I don't know if that's an upscale or not,
05:32I imagine it's just a 720p version of the episode that they saved.
05:38The Infinite Quest was created at 1080p, and so those are the versions on these discs,
05:44which is good, because The Infinite Quest was made during Series 3, and Dreamland was
05:49made during the David Tennant specials, so, yeah.
05:54Unfortunately, the animation is not held up over time for Dream Quest, or Dreamland, but
05:58you know, whatever.
06:02The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith, brand new David Tennant interview, that's also a thing
06:06that's new to this set as well, it's not any prior sets.
06:09It's him talking about his time on the show, and how things were going for the show at
06:14the time that they recorded that, again, that was back in like, 2016, 2017, something like
06:18that, I think 2017, but yeah, because he specifically talks about Jodie Whittaker and everything.
06:24Main feature, high definition, 1080p, 16 by 9, DTS HD Master Radio 5.1, over 38 hours,
06:30subtitles in English SDH, special features may not be in high def, and all of the subtitles
06:34may vary.
06:36Oh, this was put out in 2019, okay, so, yeah, so nevermind.
06:42I guess like, the 10th anniversary year of like, when David Tennant left the first time,
06:47so yeah.
06:48So, take the slipcover off, we have two different Blu-ray things with David Tennant doing his
06:57poses and everything, his companions from the first four series, or at least some of
07:05them, and then it says series 2 to 3, because Chris Eccleston did series 1, I think they
07:14released that on its own, but as far as I can tell, it's the same thing as what I already
07:18have from 2013, so, yeah.
07:22Screenshots from some of the episodes, and then what's in this, so yeah, and all of that,
07:31approximately 1300 minutes, and all of that.
07:36So we have disc 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 for the first three series.
07:43I'm imagining that the artwork is probably the same as the 2013 set.
07:50I think I put those away.
07:58Yeah.
08:01Yeah, I don't have those handy, so I can't look, but, yeah, but we have series 4 and
08:11the specials, you can see some screenshots, that's from Dreamland.
08:19But yeah, so we have disc 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
08:33And yeah, basically it's the same stuff as the 2013 set, so if you just want the, basically
08:40the only reason to get this, if you have that, is the extra special features and the
08:44two animated episodes, as well as the two episodes from the Sarah Jane Adventures.
08:49But yeah, just like how the first Peter Davison set actually had, from the classic sets, actually
08:59had the, I think it was, no, no, it was one of the John Pertwee sets, had the death of
09:05Doctor, because it featured some of John Pertwee's companions.
09:10But yeah.
09:12But yeah, so if you, or if you don't already have his episodes on Blu-ray, and if you want
09:18them on Blu-ray.
09:19So yeah.
09:20So not much else to say, so link's in the description, always share the subscribe if
09:24you want, and I'll see you guys in the next one.
