Daily downpours soak the Southeast

The forecast for the Southeast is more of the same, with repeated storms saturating the region.

00:00So Justin, we're not going to find that low humidity payoff in the southeast anytime soon.

00:04No, we're kind of stuck where we're at here, and that's in the soupiness and also the storminess.

00:08An additional flash flood warning here now popping up on the north side of Atlanta.

00:11This is going for DeKalb County, Fulton County, Georgia, Gwinnett County, Georgia, until 9.45,

00:17and also Cobb County, Georgia, until 10 o'clock. Some very heavy rainfall coming down right now

00:22on the northern side and eastern side of the city of Atlanta. So if you're traveling up the

00:27interstate, 85 in the short term, very, very low visibility here. That's the reason why we've been

00:32seeing so many of the big delays. The ground stop here toward Atlanta's Hartsfield International

00:36Airport. Some of these thunderstorms can gradually build their way south over time as well. Some

00:41additional activity coming in from the southwest in and around Carrollton. Rainfall amounts here

00:46toward Atlanta's Hartsfield International, still sitting at seven hundredths of an inch. It's on

00:50the north side of town that we've had Doppler estimates of two to two and a half inches of rain

00:56with additional downpours all the way this evening and again heading in toward Wednesday.

01:00Now those rainfall amounts are going to be adding up. We've seen them really add up around Durham

01:04dating back to this previous weekend. We've seen a couple of instances of flash flooding there.

01:09The majority of the storms though will be driven by daytime heating along with a front that's

01:14involved kind of stretching and snaking its way throughout the Tennessee Valley.

01:18Whereas most of the thunderstorms developing would be toward the mid to late afternoon hours

01:23like we saw today, like we saw yesterday and Sunday. We'll see this again replay itself out

01:27as we go into Wednesday and also into Thursday and perhaps even Friday afternoon. And that will

01:32keep temperatures down to some degree here in Charlotte. Not straying too far from the historical

01:39average. We're right at that mark here at 90 degrees. 87 though toward New Orleans. So definitely

01:43below the historical average. So it will be very steamy with those storms in place and we'll

01:48continue to see additional thunderstorms like I said as we work our way right into Thursday.

01:52Rain amounts here adding up especially where we see repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms.

01:56Would not be surprised at all to see two, three, four inches of rain

02:00especially in this zone throughout the central and eastern Carolinas.
