00:00The date given by the Caribbean Court of Justice is July 31st, whereby submissions are expected
00:06to be made from the lawyers of Derek Ramsamuj, pertaining to his detention by Suriname's
00:12authorities in 2020.
00:14His lawyers, as well as lawyers for Suriname, got a date during a virtual case management
00:18conference they attended.
00:20The CCJ says the respondents to Ramsamuj's submissions have a deadline of August 21st
00:27to respond, and the submissions of reply are set for September 4th.
00:32The CCJ has also agreed that the two parties will present an expert witness on Suriname
00:37law jointly, or in the absence of an agreement, present their own expert witness.
00:44Derek Ramsamuj, who is the holder of a dual Trinidad and Tobago and British citizenship,
00:49was summarily detained in the Suriname capital of Paramaribo in October 2020.
00:57He was only allowed to leave the country in September 2022, after a judge ordered the
01:02Suriname's authorities to return his passports, noting that he had cooperated with the authorities
01:07and said he wanted to clear his name through legal means.
01:10Ramsamuj said he had been informed by Suriname's police on October 6, 2020, that all they wanted
01:17from him was a statement to support an inquiry into operations at the Suriname Post Savings
01:23Bank.
01:24He had conducted customer surveys for the bank and had also conducted bank employee
01:28surveys as well as two country risk assessments of Suriname in his capacity as an analyst
01:35and researcher.
01:36Ramsamuj says his health took a serious hit because of his detention in Suriname.
