Is trading or keeping Garrett Crochet a bigger risk for White Sox?

00:00I understand the question because there's risk involved in both.

00:03There's inherent risk with a pitcher like Garrett Crochet, I suppose,

00:06because of his injury past.

00:08And let's face it, coming into the season, I'm not sure anybody anticipated him

00:12having this many starts at this point of the year.

00:16And yet, he looks like one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball,

00:21one of the best starting pitchers in the game.

00:25I think because of that and

00:26the potential that we have seen him flash in the first half of the season.

00:30Trading him represents monumental risk for the White Sox.

00:35They are in the midst of a rebuild.

00:37They do need prospects.

00:40They do need talent.

00:42That would be, I don't know if it would be a signature move,

00:45it would be another signature move.

00:47The Dillon Cease move was pretty big.

00:49You get rid of Dillon Cease, more accomplished than Garrett Crochet.

00:53And that's a pretty big step in the direction of getting guys like

00:57Drew Thorpe to help you rebuild.

01:00Crochet would be another one just about the same level as that.

01:04Probably more in return because of the nature of the trade deadline and

01:09the teams, every team wants him.

01:11But you trade him, you risk watching him flourish and

01:17develop into Chris Sale, Randy Johnson.

01:22The guys to whom he compares himself.

01:25You can't afford to do that, Chris Getz.

01:28The White Sox, you can't get better and maintain any semblance of credibility.

01:33And you can't do this to your fan base again.

01:37Trade somebody to watch him win a Cy Young for another team?

01:41No, I wouldn't do it.

01:44I understand the value.

01:45I know what's at stake here.

01:47I've weighed all the calculus, risk and reward.

01:51He's worth keeping, he's worth building around, and I wouldn't do it.
