00:00Confronting and chaotic, a Sunday bus trip turns into a highway horror.
00:07This was a very significant incident.
00:09Around 11 o'clock this morning, a Greyhound bus collided with a four-wheel drive which was towing a caravan.
00:1633 people were on board the bus at the time.
00:19Three women died, dozens were injured, some are fighting for life.
00:25The area where the crash occurred was a 100km zone, so it's a crash involving a significant impact.
00:32It was on the Bruce Highway near the tiny town of Gumloo, north of Bowen.
00:36Dozens of emergency crews, land and air, mobilised to transport the injured to hospitals across the region.
00:44The incident so significant, hospitals at Townsville and Ayr are urging residents to not come in unless it is an emergency.
00:52The impacts from this will be felt right throughout the community, right across the state and possibly across the nation as well.
01:01The ABC understands the bus left Brisbane at around midday on Saturday and was expected to arrive in Townsville in the early hours of the afternoon.
01:10All those who died and were injured were travelling on the bus, with police telling media that the occupants of the four-wheel drive were unharmed.
01:18The emergency response is now shifting to forensic crash investigation, as officers work to determine how and why this tragedy took place.
