Man, dead and ten other injured after bus collision in New South Wales

Emergency services are on scene after a fatal bus crush, in southern New South Wales. A man died and 10 people were injured when the bus collided with another vehicle on the Hume highway

00:00What we know so far is that this bus was travelling from Melbourne and on its way to Canberra.

00:07It had around 40 passengers on it when it was travelling on the Hume Highway just around

00:123am.

00:13Emergency services were called shortly after to the Hume Highway at Kayemba which is around

00:1950km south of Wagga Wagga following reports of a crash.

00:24School officers arrived at the scene to see that the bus and a heavy vehicle had collided.

00:31Now NSW Ambulance Paramedics arrived on the scene as well and attended to the driver of

00:37the bus but unfortunately he died at the scene.

00:40It's believed he was 32 years of age.

00:43Now crash investigators have been on the scene since early this morning trying to prepare

00:47a report for the coroner.

00:49NSW Police have told us that an investigation is underway to see what was the cause of this

00:56fatal crash.

00:57But what they do know is that both vehicles were travelling north in the same lane.

01:04Early indications are both the semi-trailer and the bus were travelling in the same lane

01:11and it appears from early indications the bus has collided with the rear of the semi-trailer

01:19as it went up a steep incline here at Kayemba Gap.

01:24Rachel what's happened to the people who were on board?

01:29Well the Murrumbidgee Health District told ABC that 10 passengers have been transported

01:34to Wagga Hospital for their injuries.

01:37Another 29 have been transported to Wagga Hospital as well for assessment and three

01:42which is believed to be the most severe have been transported to Albury Hospital.

01:47Now one man it's believed he has a broken leg but most of the injuries are pretty not

01:55as severe which is a good thing police are saying.

01:58Police told us that this could have been a mass casualty event and you know it's a horrific

02:05thing even one death is already too much so an investigation is underway so we'll find

02:13more soon.
