A woman has been found stabbed to death in her home in Sydney’s inner west. A 42-year-old man who recently moved into the property has been arrested. He is in custody and is being questioned by police and is expected to be charged with her murder.

00:00In the waterside suburb of Russell Lee, a woman's scream for help raised the alarm.
00:07A minute later, police arrived at a home in Clements Street.
00:11Inside they found the body of a woman, aged in her 50s.
00:15The victim suffered significant and multiple injuries to her upper body.
00:21In relation to the weapon, we're talking stab wounds, so it is a bladed instrument.
00:28A 22-year-old male housemate was arrested at the scene and taken away for questioning.
00:33They had been living at the rental property for less than a month.
00:36They were not in an intimate relationship.
00:39The fact that they are living together, residing under the one roof,
00:43albeit for two to three weeks, makes it a domestic violence incident.
00:48There's been a lot of domestic violence that's happened this year already,
00:51so it's just incredibly sad and, you know, where does it end?
00:55Police say three other housemates were home at the time,
00:58but they are not being treated as persons of interest.
01:02Women and men, we know it happens to everybody,
01:04and you should feel safe with the person that you're going home to every day,
01:07so, you know, there's just no words for it.
01:09Forensic officers spent the day searching the street
01:12while homicide detectives spoke to nearby residents, hunting for answers.
01:17Neighbours say they have previously heard disturbances at the property,
01:20and while police have confirmed the man in custody
01:23has a criminal history of non-violent driving and drug-related offences,
01:28they say he was not subject to an apprehended violence order.
01:32The owner of the property says the man and woman were not registered tenants.
