00:00In the waterside suburb of Russell Lee, a woman's scream for help raised the alarm.
00:07A minute later, police arrived at a home in Clements Street.
00:11Inside they found the body of a woman, aged in her 50s.
00:15The victim suffered significant and multiple injuries to her upper body.
00:21In relation to the weapon, we're talking stab wounds, so it is a bladed instrument.
00:28A 22-year-old male housemate was arrested at the scene and taken away for questioning.
00:33They had been living at the rental property for less than a month.
00:36They were not in an intimate relationship.
00:39The fact that they are living together, residing under the one roof,
00:43albeit for two to three weeks, makes it a domestic violence incident.
00:48There's been a lot of domestic violence that's happened this year already,
00:51so it's just incredibly sad and, you know, where does it end?
00:55Police say three other housemates were home at the time,
00:58but they are not being treated as persons of interest.
01:02Women and men, we know it happens to everybody,
01:04and you should feel safe with the person that you're going home to every day,
01:07so, you know, there's just no words for it.
01:09Forensic officers spent the day searching the street
01:12while homicide detectives spoke to nearby residents, hunting for answers.
01:17Neighbours say they have previously heard disturbances at the property,
01:20and while police have confirmed the man in custody
01:23has a criminal history of non-violent driving and drug-related offences,
01:28they say he was not subject to an apprehended violence order.
01:32The owner of the property says the man and woman were not registered tenants.
