A 60-year-old man has died shortly after being arrested following a domestic violence incident in Sydney's south-west. Police have declared a critical incident to be overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission and Professional Standards Command.

00:00Officers were called to Bly Avenue in Lurnia yesterday afternoon responding to reports of a domestic violence assault.
00:12Neighbours have told the ABC that a woman came knocking for help about 4 o'clock with wounds to her head.
00:20When paramedics and police arrived, they treated the 58-year-old woman for serious injuries from blunt force trauma.
00:29She told them she had been assaulted by her husband who allegedly fled the scene.
00:35The woman was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.
00:39Now police say the 60-year-old man was later arrested at a different home in Sadlia.
00:45Paramedics were also there treating him for the use of prohibited drugs, but his condition deteriorated during the arrest.
00:53Police worked with the ambulance. My understanding is that he was handcuffed for a short period of time.
00:58And then as his health declined, the handcuffs were removed at the request of ambulance so they could continue their treatment.
01:05He was taken to Westmead Hospital but died shortly after arriving.
01:10A critical incident investigation has been launched.
01:14The information at hand appears to be appropriate in terms of the police action.
01:17However, that will be subject to the critical investigation team.
01:21The investigation will be overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission and Professional Standards Command.
01:28A report will be prepared for the coroner.
