Man in custody after two people stabbed to death in northwest Sydney

A man and a woman have been stabbed to death in north-west Sydney.  Police have arrested a man in his forties.

00:00Police were called to Quakers Hill earlier this morning over reports of a disturbance on Elabo Street.

00:07When they arrived, they found a man in his 30s on the footpath suffering stab wounds.

00:12He was treated by paramedics before being taken to the Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

00:17Police say he died a few hours later.

00:20Detectives entered the home where they found the body of a woman, also in her 30s.

00:25She's yet to be formally identified.

00:27We spoke to a neighbour who said he heard a commotion unfold at around 4.30 this morning.

00:33There was a couple of brief crashes coming.

00:36I couldn't tell which direction it was coming from.

00:38And then I think a lady screamed four times.

00:42Just a wordless scream of fear sort of thing.

00:45And then I think two or three different dogs were barking all at once.

00:49And then it all kind of just suddenly stopped at the same time.

00:52And from then it was just pure silence until the police came probably 20 minutes later.

00:58Around an hour later, police say a 47-year-old man turned himself in at Blacktown Police Station.

01:05He was arrested and remains in custody.

01:08A strike force has been set up to investigate what happened.

01:12Right now detectives are door knocking and speaking with neighbours while a forensics team is sweeping the scene.
