Is there a Venezuela, Trinidad, India connection... as it pertains to this country's refinery talks with Indian-based Jindal Steel & Power? Transcript
00:00The opposition UNC is adding another twist to the refinery talks between the
00:05government and Jindal's student power following the revelation that its
00:10chairman Indian businessman Naveen Jindal is currently before the courts on
00:14corruption charges. Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has stated that he was
00:19unaware of that fact but noted that the government had not conducted any
00:24forensic investigations it was last Monday June 17th the office of the
00:42Prime Minister indicated that Dr. Rowley had met with Mr. Jindal. The release said
00:47quote Chairman Jindal's visit today is a result of Prime Minister Rowley's recent
00:53trip to India where he met with several business leaders and invited them to
00:58explore investment opportunities in Trinidad and Tobago end quote but the
01:03opposition leader notes that was not Mr. Jindal's first visit to TNT. He said that
01:09Jindal come down here because Rowley went up there. But this man was here when?
01:15In March 2023 meeting your government. You know Rowley in the energy minister's
01:25t-shirt is in the pocket of Rowley you think he didn't tell Rowley Jindal come
01:31down here? Now the opposition leader is suggesting that there is more to the
01:35story she referenced a March 2024 article by Business Standard India which
01:41indicated that GSP had taken over operations at Venezuela's largest iron
01:47ore complex. The government has claimed that Jindal has access to the crude oil
01:52for the refinery. I want to ask you this where did you really find Jindal? Did you
02:00find him in India or did you find him in Venezuela? Where did you find him? You
02:09know India has one of the largest refineries in the world and you have a
02:12drop of oil. So what we are seeing is a Venezuela Trinidad India connection. Was
02:20it the Venezuelans who put the Rowley government on to Mr. Jindal to get the
02:25petrochemical refinery? The opposition says the government has questions to
02:29answer and they're promising to keep the issue on the front burner.
