00:00The cabinet is not made up of good administrators.

00:08They are good politicians, but not good administrators.

00:12So they are not leading the country.

00:16This is what Dr. Mahathir Mohamad had to say about Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's cabinet.

00:22The former prime minister said the cabinet lacked both administrative competence and

00:26experience.

00:27Mahathir said their lack of experience meant that they have not been able to translate

00:31their popularity into forming a cohesive and effective administration, adding that Anwar

00:36himself is only focused on political survival.

00:40Anwar is not giving the kind of leadership that he should because he is concerned with

00:48dealing with people who are opposed to him.

00:51For example, he has taken action against Daim, he has taken action against my children,

00:59he has taken action against many people.

01:03Mahathir also expressed concern over the government not being business-friendly enough, saying

01:07it had a detrimental impact on the ability to attract FDI, adding that the Malaysia-incorporated

01:12policy which he introduced in 1981, which was aimed at encouraging cooperation between

01:17public and private sectors, has since been shunned.

01:21People who are doing business find it difficult to do business because of corruption, because

01:27of inefficiency, because of delays in approval and all that.

01:33The government is not functioning well and because of that the economy cannot grow.

01:39He also criticised Putrajaya's handling of the rising cost of living, saying hastily

01:43implemented tax hikes and subsidy rationalisations have burdened the rakyat.

01:48If you want to raise taxes and all that, you do so gradually, not one big go.

01:57This one is going up by RM120, that's a very big increase, almost 50%.

02:04And that makes people suffer.

02:07On June 10th, the government started rationalising the price of diesel, pushing prices up to

02:11RM3.35 per litre.
