00:00When the craving for curries hits, nothing beats the satisfying banana leaf spread.
00:05And in Bangsa, Bala's banana leaf is where you'll want to be.
00:10Beyond banana leaf meals, the restaurant also serves soft appams,
00:14crispy thosay in colourful hues, and so much more.
00:18But behind the food is a deeper story.
00:22That of her wife's unwavering determination to keep her late husband's legacy alive.
00:27Oh, because this is my husband's passion.
00:32The restaurant is now helmed by the founder's widow, Mangaya Karisiviria, or Mangay,
00:38with the support of their two sons.
00:41Her husband, Balakrishnan Tanuskodi, passed away on Merdeka Day in 2021 from liver complications.
00:49Though devastated, Mangay resolved to keep the business alive as she knew how much it meant to him.
00:56She was like, okay, let's go back to work.
00:58I have my workers, I have my staff, I have to pay all their salaries,
01:02I have to make sure the restaurant keeps going.
01:05Still, her husband's passing left a void, especially as he was well-loved by customers.
01:11He was very much interested and, you know, passionate about it.
01:18To give good food, to make sure we give quality food with, you know,
01:24it's also nutritious for the public, with a good value for money.
01:29So that was his belief.
01:31Today, the family stays true to his principle.
01:35Cooking without MSG, additives, or preservatives.
01:40Only fresh seafood and high-quality spices and ingredients make it to the table.
01:45Naturally, customers return time and again for their lip-smacking banana leaf meals,
01:50complete with sides, curries, and more.
01:52Looking ahead, Mange shares that she is determined to keep working hard
01:57and keep her beloved husband's legacy alive.
02:01I would like to renovate the shop for my customer to have better dining
02:06and to be more comfortable.
