00:06are willing to offer a full scholarship to Edward Wong, the top STPM scorer who failed
00:11to secure a place in University of Malaya's accountancy course under the government's
00:16Unit Pusat University pathway.
00:19However, MCA President Wee Ka Siong stressed that a scholarship from the two institutions
00:24linked to his party should not be seen as the solution to the root cause of Wong's case.
00:30Wee said Wong, who scored a perfect 4.0 cGPA and 99.9% in co-curricular points, believed
00:38he was entitled to a place in the country's top public universities.
00:42Wee also cautioned that Malaysia risked losing top talent as Wong might receive offers from
00:48universities abroad.
00:50Wong's case gained public attention after Wee raised it at an initial press conference
00:55where he called the centralized UPU admission process flawed and unfair.
01:00The Higher Education Department subsequently clarified that Wong was ranked 1,129th among
01:062,291 eligible applicants for UM, while only 85 places for accountancy were available in
01:13his top choice university this year.
