Captain Powell however says in order for that to happen, his players must show discipline and play good, hard cricket.

00:00West Indies were comprehensively beaten by defending champions England in their Super
00:048 opener in St Lucia. The 8 wicket loss puts the men in Maroon in a must win situation
00:08in the remaining games. Skipper Ravman Powell felt the score of 180 was defendable.
00:13If we won the toss we would have bowled also. It's a general thing for teams when the wicket
00:20is good. You kind of unsure as to what is a good total on the wicket so you generally
00:26bowl first. At the halfway stage we think that 180 is a fighting total. We knew that
00:31if we bowled well we could have defended 180. The English got an opening 67 run partnership
00:37which eventually saw them overhauling 180 in the 18th over. So what was going through
00:42Powell's mind when Salt and Captain Joss Butler were setting the foundation for England?
00:47It's just cricket. Sometimes you're going to be put in some situations where you're
00:51going to lose a few games. It's just for us now to pick up the pieces. Absolutely nothing
00:56went through my mind. When we realised that we had lost the game we tried to push the
01:00game as far as possible because we know a net run rate can become a factor in the end.
01:05Obed McCoy took a match winning 3 for 14 in the final group game against Afghanistan but
01:10was not selected for the match against England. The skipper defended his decision for doing
01:14so. I think when you're selecting a team and you have players that are playing good you
01:19will always have to make the tough decision. We sit down as a selection group and think
01:23that the team that played today is our better team to face England and it just didn't work
01:28out tonight. Powell says once the West Indies play good cricket they can still get to the
01:33semis. So can any changes be expected moving forward? Just sit here and tell them that
01:39we will have tweaks, we will have changes for the next game. It's a difficult one. We
01:43still think that the guys that took the field tonight were the right guys that took the
01:47field. But those things do happen. England played a very good game of cricket tonight.
01:52The Windies next play USA on Friday in Barbados from 8.30pm TT time.
