00:00Rifts within Bersatu, which appear to have widened ahead of the party elections in October,
00:07have forced Muhyiddin Yassin to continue setting aside his wish to retire from the top post,
00:13according to a source.
00:14The party leader, who did not wish to be identified, said this was why the Bersatu Supreme Council
00:19meeting on June 7 had decided to retain Muhyiddin as president.
00:24The source said factions within Bersatu might threaten the party's and Perikatan Nasional's
00:29chances in the 16th general election.
00:32It is understood that these factions are centered around Supreme Council Member Azmin Ali, Secretary
00:37General Hamzah Zainuddin, and Deputy President Ahmad Faizal Azumu.
00:42Meanwhile, Ilham Center Executive Director Hisomuddin Bakar said the party's decision
00:47not to allow contests for its presidency was the best decision for the time being.
00:52He said this would provide balance and keep Bersatu's internal divisions from worsening,
00:57adding that Muhyiddin should stay at Bersatu's helm to balance the scales within PN with PAS.
