00:00Bersatu Vice President Ronald Kiyandi has urged Muhyiddin Yassin to step down as the party's president,
00:07becoming the first senior leader to call for the former prime minister to relinquish the top post in Bersatu.
00:13Kiyandi, the Sabah Bersatu chief, accused Muhyiddin of failing to effectively handle the party's internal crisis,
00:20which he said had dragged on to a point of no return.
00:24In a statement, Kiyandi said Muhyiddin was using what little strength he had left,
00:28merely to defend his position as Bersatu president while pursuing a personal agenda to return as prime minister one day.
00:36He added that this included blocking Bersatu Deputy President Hamza Zainuddin from leading the party in the future.
00:43The former minister also described the disciplinary board's action against Hamza and several leaders aligned with him
00:50as a desperate misuse of party procedures to shut down dissenting voices.
00:54He said these were regressive steps that went against efforts to bolster the party ahead of the next general election.
