Dangerous heat wave looming for millions of Americans

Many parts of the Northeast will face temperatures in the high 90s as mid-June arrives.

00:00A dangerous heat wave is looming for over 135 million next week from Chicago to Philadelphia.

00:09Here we go.

00:10I hope you're ready for that heat.

00:12If we look at what's on tap here for next week, we have high pressure anchored here

00:17across the Ohio Valley.

00:19That's where we're going to feel the most intense heat.

00:21But still, up and down this region from the Midwest to New England, we're talking widespread

00:27heat, intensive heat, that's going to be impacting millions.

00:31Now many areas are even going to be approaching those triple digits, and that could cause

00:36some regional power disruptions due to that increased demand for cooling.

00:42Now for Monday, that's when we start to really heat things up.

00:46This is when we start to get closer and closer towards those records.

00:48I mean, Indianapolis, you're at 95.

00:51We're looking to tie that as we head into Monday.

00:54Kalamazoo, beating your record with a high of 97.

00:57Similar story, Morgantown, West Virginia.

00:59Even Pittsburgh, you're coming in pretty impressive, just shy of those triple digits.

01:04Boy, 98.

01:05Look at that record of 95.

01:07Sit back in, 1994.

01:1094 in Mansfield, Ohio.

01:12So again, it's going to be quite toasty in these areas.

01:15And it's not just those air temperatures we have to be concerned about.

01:18It's also our accuweather real field temperatures.

01:25About 95 to plus that triple digit markup, or it's a 105.

01:30So it is going to be hot, especially there across the Ohio Valley Monday afternoon.

01:37This time you're seeing Philly on the list.

01:39Pittsburgh's still pretty hot.

01:41Philly, you're at 96.

01:43And while we are tracking a strong heat wave coming up in Philly, if we look at our accuweather

01:47heat wave severity index, this takes into account lots of different factors of how strong

01:53a heat wave will be.

01:55And we are tracking a strong heat wave there June 17th through the 23rd.
