AccuWeather's Bernie Rayno warns of an upcoming heat wave ahead for the northeastern region of the United States during the week of June 17-24, with temperatures expected between the 90s and 100s.

00:00Here's the area at least for now where we think temperatures are going to be between 90 and 100
00:06degrees. Detroit, Columbus, back toward Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, coastal New
00:12England. You may be spared the worst of the heat as there should be an easterly flow. Boy, the
00:17increased demand for cooling is going to be a problem here and this could have some impacts
00:23on the power grid as well. I want to show you some of our temperatures here as we go forward.
00:27Take a look at Philadelphia as we move in the next week. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
00:31above 90. I think this streak of 1, 2, 3, 4 can go to 6 or even 7 as the heat would likely continue
00:39in the next weekend. Notice Detroit, middle 90s beginning on Monday lasting through Thursday. Here
00:45too, I can see how the heat continues into the weekend. Now, this heat, it all depends on the
00:52strength and the aerial coverage of this upper high which begins on Monday to build across parts
00:59of Tennessee and Kentucky. There are two scenarios with this heat wave. Here's our first scenario and
01:05we're hoping that this is the one that is correct. That is the upper high which is going to really
01:10cause the heat is more localized. So the heat is localized to the parts of the Ohio Valley and
01:16into the Northeast where temperatures are 90 to 100 degrees. There would be some, at least the
01:21possibility, of some localized power disruptions because of not only the heat during the day but
01:27temperatures at night in the 70s. This is the worst case scenario and this is a possibility.
01:32The upper high is a lot stronger. With that, many areas in this red could be approaching 100 degrees
01:38and if that's the case, we could be looking at regional power disruptions. This is a possibility.
