00:00Sources state that the student stopped a PH driver to be taken to school. The
00:05driver instead made a detour to another location. After being sexually assaulted,
00:11the student was taken to a location near her school and left on the roadway. Her
00:16relatives were contacted and she was rushed to the Scarborough General Hospital
00:21where she was medically treated. Tutor Tobago officer Braden Roberts was
00:26contacted on the matter.
00:44He further stated,
00:56Mr. Roberts said, while the police have their job to do, they cannot do it
01:23In terms of remedies to the situation, I know we have always called on the police
01:27service to do a lot of things, but we need to be able to influence the minds of the
01:31person because when persons choose in violence and the illegal acts, it's only after the facts
01:37police can really get to it. So we need to have measures in place to really tackle the
01:42ills in the mindsets of our people in school and out of school. Education
01:47Secretary Zerisha Hackett said she was devastated and horrified to hear about
01:53this appalling incident. She said they will launch an immediate investigation to
01:58uncover the details and ensure the student receives every bit of support
02:03and care she needs. Secretary Hackett said this incident painfully underscores
