00:06 Last week we spent a lot of time on Caitlin and we have to again now because
00:10 the big news now is she was left off the Team USA women's roster that's going to be going over to Paris
00:16 to play for a gold medal.
00:18 Mike, should she have been on the team?
00:21 This is a perfectly justifiable decision if you want to justify it.
00:26 There are a lot of ways you can.
00:28 I mean, she's not one of the 12 best players in the WNBA yet.
00:32 There are clearly other players who have been around longer, who have achieved more, etc.
00:38 But you're not going to win the gold medal or lose it based on your 12th player.
00:44 That's not going to happen.
00:46 You're not going to lose it under any circumstance.
00:48 You could take six and still win it and probably win by a lot.
00:52 That's been the recent history.
00:54 And when I say recent, I'm talking about the last quarter century of USA women's basketball in the Summer Olympics.
01:02 They win every time.
01:03 They win by a lot every time.
01:05 So what this is is a missed opportunity.
01:10 Christine Brennan reported, the terrific columnist she is, reported that the coaching structure was concerned
01:19 that Kaitlyn Clark's fans would turn on the television and she wouldn't be playing a lot and they'd be upset.
01:24 You know what they missed in that decision there, Mike?
01:28 They'd have turned on the television.
01:30 And what would they have seen?
01:32 They'd have seen how awesome Asia Wilson is, how awesome Breanna Stewart is.
01:36 If they didn't already know, they'd know.
01:38 And I have to say, based on women's basketball audiences over the last 10 years, not everybody knows.
01:44 The audiences have not been huge.
01:47 Now, the audiences for Kaitlyn Clark's WNBA games have been extraordinary.
01:52 And it's allowed more attention to seep into the league.
01:56 But you can't get enough attention.
01:58 Mike, when -- and please don't take this as equivalent.
02:02 It's just a similar example.
02:04 When Taylor Swift started showing up in NFL games and young people started turning off on the television to see her in the stands or in the boxes,
02:15 that meant more people were watching NFL games and they might decide they liked it.
02:21 And some I'm sure did and some I'm sure didn't.
02:25 But that's the whole point.
02:27 You draw more eyeballs to your product.
02:30 If your product is an entertainment product, you want more people to see it.
