00:00But how do you feel, all things considering, a couple of days after the fight?
00:04I feel great.
00:05Like, I didn't really take any damage.
00:08I would have liked more of a fight.
00:10Honestly, Santiago just quit.
00:12Like, you can see right there, I was just throwing him all around.
00:15Like, I thought he was going to get up.
00:17He was trying to pretend like I hit him in the back of the head.
00:20Like, he fought the UFC, man.
00:22He has, like, 25 pro fights.
00:24I thought he was going to put up more of a fight.
00:26It was a little too easy.
00:28You broke his will early.
00:29And I know as a better, bro, and I've been betting on fights for years,
00:33I can sort of tell right away.
00:34And I'm sure you can tell watching a fight, oh, this guy's screwed,
00:38or this guy's going to win early.
00:40You kind of know as a fighter, too, don't you?
00:43And I know you're confident all the time,
00:45but you felt confidence, like, after the first time you hit him in this fight, right?
00:48You could see it in his eyes, and he didn't want this.
00:51Man, I felt confident after what happened at the weigh-ins.
00:55I knew he did that because he was scared.
00:57We were talking in the back.
00:59He was, like, trying to be all buddy-buddy with me.
01:01And then I said to him, I was like, let's go out there and put on a show.
01:05And he's like, oh, you do whatever.
01:06I'll just follow your lead.
01:08And then I got off the scale.
01:09This guy tries to double-leg me, double-leg takedown me.
01:12He's like, as soon as I got off the scale, I didn't even say anything.
01:15I didn't even touch him.
01:16I was like, what the f***?
01:18And then I turned him, and then they made us come back out
01:22because they didn't get any of the actual face-off pictures.
01:25And he had to go live in the corner to calm down.
01:28I'm like, man, I was laughing the whole time.
01:29I'm like, what are you so fired up about?
01:31And you're just calm, and you're feeling it.
01:36But at the same point in time, and I've talked to people about this,
01:39you don't learn much, right, when you win easily, right?
01:43It's how you're saying.
01:43You want a little bit more.
01:44You want to be tested.
01:46And maybe you want to test something and work on your skills as well.
01:53I've heard you don't want to lose a fight.
01:54No one wants to lose a fight.
01:55But I've heard fighters often say, you've been in MMA before,
01:58you often learn by losing that time.
02:00So when you said you want a little bit more,
02:02that's what I took away from that.
02:04Yeah, man.
02:05And, like, I trained myself for eight, nine weeks.
02:08Like, I was ready to go all five rounds if I needed to.
02:11But, like, a minute.
02:13Like, it's nice to get in and fight and get the job done
02:16and not have any injuries.
02:17But, like, I wanted to test myself a little bit more,
02:20especially being in my third fight, being main event.
02:22Like, I wanted to put on a better performance,
02:24but he just didn't really give me the opportunity.
02:25I often find that fighting in your hometown, in your home area,
02:30in your backyard, could be a negative with friends and family
02:33and maybe pressure.
02:35But you seem to have thrived off of it.
02:37What's it like fighting in Edmonton?
02:40Oh, it's awesome, man.
02:41Like, I sold, like, 300, 350 tickets for that fight.
02:44Like, I had so much support.
02:46All the people there cheering me on and supporting me
02:49just fuels me even more and just makes me want to fight harder
02:52and put on even better performance.
02:53And it's pretty cool, too, that BKFC kind of believes in you, right?
02:58Like, how did this start?
02:59I know you were in mixed martial arts before.
03:01No, I was in boxing.
03:04Yeah, but so you were boxing, right?
03:06Exactly.
03:06In combat sports.
03:07But they had an open tryout at a gym.
03:10How did you get involved with BKFC?
03:13Yeah, they actually hosted.
03:14They do this show where they do tryouts.
03:17And then they take a couple guys onto the show.
03:19And then they take them and do some stuff.
03:21And they do interviews.
03:22And then they put up footage of the tryouts.
03:25And they actually contacted us to see if they could host the tryouts
03:28in Edmonton at our gym.
03:29So, obviously, like, I never really had any interest in doing bare knuckle.
03:33I didn't think much of it.
03:34But, like, just it being at my gym, I was like, well, yeah,
03:37of course I'm going to go.
03:38And then I ended up being, like, one of their top prospects.
03:41They asked me to be on that show that they did.
03:43And then, yeah, I got a fight on that first prospect series.
03:46And my first fight was the same kind of thing, man.
03:48It was a guy.
03:49The guy came out hard.
03:50He cut me.
03:51Gave me, like, 15 stitches.
03:52But as soon as I connected and landed a couple times, he just quit.
03:56Same thing.
03:57He, like, I hit him and he fell into me.
03:59I turned him.
04:00And then he tried to pretend that he rolled and hurt his ankle.
04:04Like, these guys just, they don't want to fight.
