"Concern is the word of the Day",this from President of the Tunapuna Business Chamber of Industry and Commerce Ramon Gregorio as he weighs in on the crime problem wreaking havoc in the community.
00:00 criminals have set their sights on churches, businesses and homes across
00:05 the country. Anyone can be a target at any time and in Tunapuna it's no
00:10 different. According to the Tunapuna Business Chamber President, the
00:15 kidnapping of 27 year old Anisha Hossain over the weekend is worrisome.
00:20 It's happening in larger society. What I would say is that yesterday has been a
00:25 cause for concern. Obviously it's been widely reported in the media.
00:30 There are no hidden treasures in Tunapuna. What I would say is that we
00:35 are dealing with the matters as aggressively and as intelligently as we
00:42 can. Obviously the kidnapping on Saturday morning of the source that was
00:47 proprietary of Ms Hossain, a very unfortunate incident, a very stark incident to wake up to on a Saturday morning.
00:54 However, the chamber president says the community is working with the police to put a stronger hold on the criminal situation.
01:03 He gave an update on the camera surveillance system called Eagle Eye that was launched a few months ago in Tunapuna.
01:10 Obviously our work has to continue at a more aggressive pace simply because the criminal element is starting to utilize their own intelligence.
01:19 And that is something that we have been guarding against and monitoring quite actively.
01:23 Gregorio stresses that the situation is affecting everyone and his chamber members are on high alert.
01:30 Concern is the order of the day. That's the one word that when I look at different business group chats that I'm involved in,
01:36 or even having conversations with members on the telephone, or even seeing them in the streets or interacting with them,
01:44 I think concern is the biggest word. And with all good reason, obviously the types of crime that we are seeing in our area,
01:52 I mean, other parts of the country are starting to get a little too close to home and in some instances has been has gotten close to home already.
02:00 Still, he seeks to assure the public that Tunapuna is open for business and tells TV6 that the community council and the police have a strong relationship
02:10 and work hand in hand to dismantle criminal constructs. Nicole M. Romany, TV6 News.
