Leeds locals reflect on the concept of Graduated Driving Licences

Passenger restrictions for new drivers is one of the measures being proposed by The AA who are calling for ‘Graduated Driving Licences’ to try to reduce the number of young people killed on the roads.

00:00 I think it's a crazy idea to not allow them to carry passengers when we're trying to, you know, car share all the time.

00:07 You're trying to, you know, the plus two lanes and all the rest of it, so that's not going to work.

00:11 And as soon as you've got your driving licence, you should be confident enough to be able to drive your car

00:16 and have a responsibility of looking after people and yourself.

00:19 From my experience of being a first time driver, yeah, it would have been good to drive by myself.

00:26 When you've got friends, they can motivate you to drive a different way, maybe a bit more hazardously.

00:32 So being by yourself, you always, you haven't got any distractions.

00:37 You're focusing on the road and other drivers too.

00:41 First time drivers, the insurance is ridiculous.

00:45 So they've actually got that in place now.

00:47 And to become a good, experienced driver, you've got to put the time and the effort in.

00:52 There are some undesirables at the minute who, yeah, should never have been given a licence.
