Transcript
00:00Are you a resident in the Halton area of Leeds or do you regularly drive along Green Lane or cross
00:06Green Lane?
00:07If so, you'll know there are currently measures in place to reduce vehicle speeds, but a new council report has
00:13said safety is at risk as drivers are routinely breaching speed restrictions.
00:18Now, drivers will be prevented from breaching 20mph speed limits with the installation of more road bumps.
00:25Leeds City Council is set to increase its traffic calming measures, with the latest speed survey showing the mean speed
00:32of vehicles is over 25mph and therefore amendments to the existing traffic calming area are said to be required.
00:40Road cushions already installed in the area are being replaced with raised sections of road called speed tables.
00:47A report said the proposal of extra features along Green Lane will reduce speeding vehicles travelling from Station Road onto
00:54Green Lane.
00:55And the issue was raised following feedback from residents.
00:58The ÂŁ35,000 scheme is set to be in place by July, with the report stating that without intervention, the
01:05road will continue to require disproportionate police resource to enforce.
01:10The council received two formal objections from people living nearby.
01:14One said the traffic calming measures would cause damage to vehicle wheels and suspensions.
01:18Another said the Green Lane's speed limit should be 30mph, with the 20mph reserved for side roads.
01:25Both objections were formally overruled by Council Highways officers.
