00:00 It's getting closer and closer to the big day with the 2024 T20 World Cup being hosted
00:05 in the USA and the West Indies in June.
00:08 Even though the Queen's Park Oval is not hosting any World Cup games, QPCC President Dr Nigel
00:13 Camacho says quality warm-up matches are going to be held at a St Clair based venue
00:18 ahead of the prestigious ICC tournament.
00:20 We've been assured by three warm-up games in a week leading up to the start of the World
00:24 Cup.
00:25 So that's the last week of May.
00:26 We've been told that there's a possibility there may be a fourth match.
00:31 Trinidad is an official warm-up venue for the T20 World Cup.
00:38 So between the various grounds that have been, including the Queen's Park Oval, which Cricket
00:43 West Indies has assured us would get the high profile warm-up games leading up to the World
00:48 Cup.
00:49 So on Thursday night and Friday night we've been assured that West Indies will be playing.
00:56 There is some work that has to be done at the Oval ahead of the warm-up matches.
01:00 However, the QPCC boss says the good news is that the playing surface and outfield are
01:05 in order.
01:06 The other areas where we need to come up to scratch are some of the support areas, including
01:11 dressing rooms, the prevailing area, lunch area, the media centre, the scoreboard.
01:17 Those areas, the additional areas, they need to be brought up to scratch.
01:23 So when the ICC actually visited the Queen's Park Oval, they gave us a wish list of things
01:29 that they wanted to see us accomplish.
01:32 Speaking of the requests made by Cricket's governing body, a project manager has been
01:36 hired to ensure work is done at the Oval.
01:39 And Dr Camacho is confident about the venue being ready on time.
01:42 The project manager has given us a costing.
01:45 We're going to take those things because some of the money may be public money as well,
01:51 coming from Sport TT, etc.
01:53 So we have to go through the normal processes of going to tender for those.
01:57 So we have the list of potential persons who can be selected to actually do some of the
02:05 work for us.
02:06 Being a TNT national and also president of the revered local club, Dr Camacho sees it
02:11 as a proud moment for the people of the Twin Island country.
02:14 We are super excited at Queen's Park, right, because not only are we hosting the warm-up
02:18 games, we received an official letter from Cricket Westernies that we were selected to
02:23 be a fan fest for the entire month of June.
02:26 So our facility is going to have the opportunity for people from the Port of Spain area to
02:32 come into the Queen's Park Oval.
02:33 We're going to create a village where people can actually come and partake in different
02:38 things and watch the games that are going on in the rest of the region.
02:43 So I think it's going to be exciting for the month.
02:45 And we're going to feature the museum at the Queen's Park Heritage Museum at the club.
02:49 When the T20 World Cup took place in the West Indies in 2010, Trinidad missed out.
02:55 This time, however, Taruba will host some World Cup matches.
