Shenanigans under new management
Transcript
00:00 Okay, so I am Max, I work behind the bar and I'm doing breakfast shifts, serving our breakfast here and making coffees.
00:08 We're on Osborne Road in Shananigans Irish pub and cafe.
00:12 Oh, extremely excited to be back. I was here previously with the old owner and I'm now here with the new owner.
00:18 Very excited to see what these new people are able to bring forward, to put in events, charity work, many different things.
00:27 Very excited to be here, I can't wait to do it.
00:30 So, obviously you mentioned that you were here with the previous owner, so what has it been like for the journey when you first started working here and when you heard about the closure?
00:42 Well, it was extremely upsetting to hear about the closure. It was such a lovely pub by everyone locally.
00:49 The staff, I mean, the staff themselves, they spent so much time here, I think they could have paid the whole pub by their own staff's payment.
01:00 But, yeah, it was I think a big knock to everyone. I remember I was involved in the social media, I didn't run it but I was helping with the posting.
01:09 I was seeing all the notifications of how people were very upset that it was closing, everyone sending their condolences.
01:16 And once it reopened, again, just a flood of love and appreciation for just an establishment like this.
01:24 How long it's been here, 14 years, everyone was just excited for it to be back.
01:29 Excellent. And so, yeah, a little bit more on that, what was the reactions like when you opened the doors again?
01:35 Well, we opened on a Friday and I think it was implied by the new owner that it was going to be a soft opening.
01:42 It's just going to be something where we're going to relax and ease into it.
01:46 But there was the Six Nations on and being a rugby pub, rugby focused anyway, it was booming.
01:53 The place was crazy, everyone was loving it. It was filled to the brim and the same with Saturday but by the double it was full, packed, it was a place.
02:04 Excellent. And finally, what's the future plans of Shenanigans and what kind of events will customers see here?
02:11 So, without saying indefinitely this will happen, we've got, as before, the live traditional music, Irish music that is.
02:20 Thinking about doing karaoke, we've got charity events every month for local charities, charities that the staff might have that are close to heart.
02:31 As a previous member of our team, our family, unfortunately had an injury, broke his leg, so he can't be here anymore.
02:42 But we're thinking about doing charity events for him here and just lots of things, maybe bring in curry nights, quiz nights, loads of different stuff, we can't wait.
02:54 Thank you.
