00:00Janice, as everybody knows, is a Milton institution.
00:05Somebody who's worked tirelessly for our local community for many, many years.
00:11Chair of the Neighbourhood Forum, looked after us,
00:14and making sure that Picnic in the Park worked well,
00:16make sure Milton Matters goes out and he looks great.
00:19There should be something to sort of recognise what Janice has done.
00:23So, could I ask Janice, Martin as Chair of the Neighbourhood Forum,
00:31Steve and Kimberley as local councillors,
00:33to come and help Janice do a little something here?
00:36Can you put the other side?
00:39And I think he comes up over and over and over.
00:43We hope, we hope, we hope.
00:46Well, on one hand, it's a big surprise,
00:56and I never thought that it would be allowed by the council.
01:00On the other hand, with a friend like Angela,
01:02who's determined to get her way,
01:05I'm not in the least bit surprised.
01:07Milton is always known as Milton Village,
01:13and it has still got a village atmosphere,
01:15and we had a lot of green space that we valued a great deal,
01:19and we knew that more and more pressure was being put on.
01:22At the time, it was the university expanding onto the area by the sea,
01:29and at the meeting, they called for a deputy chair,
01:33and I stood up and said I'd do it,
01:35and I thought, well, you know, see what we can do.
01:38What changes have you seen in the Milton area over those years?
01:42Yes.
01:43Well, we have had a number of building projects,
01:46but the Forum has been very, very lucky in having local residents who also care,
01:53and they've made their voice known.
01:56We've mitigated problems.
01:59Fair enough, there have been some developments,
02:01but we've tried to have a say in them,
02:03and make them acceptable and appropriate.
02:07So, you've given so much to the community.
02:10How are you planning to celebrate your 18th birthday?
02:13Well, I should be seeing my family,
02:17and probably a little party somewhere.
02:21So, what keeps you so active and engaged in the community now?
02:26Well, I must admit, I don't do so much now.
02:30I know I got to the point where I haven't got the energy to throw into it,
02:33and luckily Martin and many of the other committee members have all carried it on,
02:38and that is the important thing to see it continue.
02:41A lot of things die when somebody leaves,
02:43but ours is continuing, and I'm very pleased at that.
02:46If you could send one message to the Milton community, what would it be?
02:51Stay together, pull together, and make it clear what you want.
