Come next week the Borough of Chaguanas will be buzzing with Carnival activities.

Our crew had a one-on-one interview with the Chaguanas Mayor and he shared some of the borough's Carnival activities with us.
Transcript
00:00 Last week Saturday, the Chaguanas Borough launched a carnival in the municipality.
00:05 Mayor Faiq Mohammed says he has been working closely with the Chaguanas Carnival Committee
00:10 and outlined some of the festivities that will be taking place next week.
00:15 We have the Junior Calypso coming up this Saturday.
00:20 We have Junior Calypso Semi-Final, sorry not Saturday, it's Monday.
00:25 Monday 5th February and Tuesday 6th February we have the Senior Calypso Semi-Finals.
00:31 I'll just go through the thing here.
00:33 On Saturday February 10th we will have the Junior Calypso Finals.
00:37 On Saturday February 10th we will also have the Senior Calypso Finals.
00:41 On Sunday February 11th we will have the Junior Parade of the Bands.
00:46 On Monday it was Juvé.
00:48 On Monday we will also have something called Pan Fiesta.
00:51 And on Tuesday we will have Parade of the Bands.
00:55 Mr. Mohammed said this year carnival in Chaguanas would be different
00:59 as he plans to introduce traditional masks to patrons on Carnival Tuesday.
01:03 However, on Carnival Monday, patrons will be in for a treat during Pan Fiesta.
01:09 We have like a small Parade of the Bands, so something that we are trying to do to
01:14 have a little more activity during that time, like the Pan Fiesta.
01:19 But have a little entertainment in between.
01:23 So we are still tinkering with the Tuesday to develop something proper on the Tuesday.
01:29 But Pan Fiesta is something that I came up with and I told the committee
01:34 I think we should do something else.
01:36 Bring Pan into it and it might actually turn into a rhythm fiesta.
01:40 Meaning that we'll have Pan, we'll be bringing some Taza rhythm section.
01:44 Masqueraders, you've probably already decided what band you're playing in this year.
01:48 And what route it will take.
01:50 But this year the route will be a bit different.
01:53 We were having some issues with the route this year.
01:56 Because along the route of Ramsarand Street, the health center, accident and emergency
02:02 were moved recently to there.
02:04 So basically what will happen, the bands will parade all the way down to the end of Ramsarand Street.
02:09 Make their way out back and go wherever the landing sites are.
02:15 Now they'll have to go through Manek Street.
02:19 That's the immediate right from where the main stage will be on Ramsarand Street.
02:26 Mohamed said outside of the carnival season, he plans to push the cultural aspect of carnival in schools.
02:32 Do like a Moko Jambi training, like to teach kids to walk on stilts.
02:37 So like, even go to primary schools or secondary schools and expose them to wire bending.
02:44 The art of wire bending.
02:46 And when it comes to carnival, security and safety will always be a number one concern.
02:52 Last year carnival in the Borough of Chagonas was incident free.
02:56 And this year the mayor is hoping that trend continues.
02:59 After carnival, the next big public holiday, Eid will be coming up.
03:03 And then you'll have Indian Arrival Day, then you'll have Emancipation.
03:07 So I want to get them involved in doing some kind of artistic something.
03:10 To contribute to those holidays, to showcase and highlight.
03:15 So be a part of Manoa history.
