00:00 I feel like Bristol's known for being a creative space, I mean with its like
00:04 music scene and art scene and the fact that this kind of is art for everybody
00:09 you don't have to be like incredible at it you can just come here, chill out, paint
00:14 something and still be creative.
00:17 So we're at Flying Saucers and we're just off of the Clifton Triangle.
00:20 It's a pottery painting cafe where we serve drinks and you can come and do
00:24 something creative. We opened just over 15 years ago and there's a couple of
00:28 stores dotted around but this is the biggest one and when you come here you
00:32 can choose any of the pottery items and you get a two-hour session where you can
00:36 paint your pieces and you can keep them forever.
00:39 Okay so I am sat here on one of the studio setups in Flying Saucers and I'm
00:43 gonna try and paint a mug so I've picked this one first. I've gone onto Pinterest
00:48 and I've found a design that I quite like so I'm gonna attempt this but we'll
00:54 see how that goes.
00:56 I think it just gives people a break from their normal everyday
00:59 lives especially like more for older people for adults who haven't painted
01:04 before why would I spend my time doing that it's good to just switch off and do
01:08 something different.
01:09 This could be catastrophic or it might turn out quite nice
01:13 and I'm hoping if it does turn out nice I can give it as a gift to my grandma.
01:18 I am certainly no painter, I'm no Da Vinci, Van Gogh but it's actually not that
01:25 difficult so I feel like as somebody who does not have any painting skills this
01:35 might actually turn out giftable.
01:38 I just think it's a complete break I feel like as an
01:40 adult you don't really get many chances anymore to be creative like when I when
01:47 I first started here I thought I haven't done this since I was little so it's
01:52 just nice to go back to that and just have a break like a complete switch off
01:56 from it.
01:57 I think I might paint the handle.
01:59 Should I paint the handle?
02:01 Yeah I've done it now it's too late.
02:03 This is the kind of aim to make them look...
02:07 I feel like that looks like a peach or an orange.
02:13 An orangey peach.
02:15 People come in and go like oh this is I'm gonna be rubbish at this and then
02:20 they come up with the coolest designs.
02:23 You can do something really simple or something really
02:25 complicated it's completely up to you.
02:28 I have finished I... oh no.
02:31 As a clumsy human being this has really pushed my creative juices.
02:40 I have just smudged it.
02:42 If you come in the week you're gonna have a calm experience and just spend your
02:49 time painting and it's quite like a therapeutic thing to do.
02:52 If you come at the weekend it's a bit more of a bustling environment.
02:56 I have got paint absolutely everywhere.
02:58 But I think that that is a sign of a good painting session.
