00:00 Hello, there. Welcome to your latest Met Office forecast. A quiet rest of the boxing day to
00:05 come but then it turns very stormy. Storm Gerrit has been named by the Met Office. This
00:10 area of low pressure just behind me. For now, a brief ridge of high pressure but it doesn't
00:15 last long before then this storm system moves in bringing some very unsettled weather across
00:20 the country over the next 24 hours. Heavy rain, very strong winds, snow as well across
00:26 parts of Scotland. So, looking at the details for this, if we start with the rest of boxing
00:31 day, a fine day and afternoon to come. Plenty of sunshine across the country, most places
00:37 dry just some wintry showers still affecting the far north east of Scotland and then later
00:42 on in the day across parts of Devon and Cornwall, thicker cloud will bring some outbreaks of
00:47 rain. But overall, generally most places dry with some hazy sunshine and temperatures a
00:52 little more seasonal for the time of year. We're looking at highs of 5, 6 Celsius across
00:56 the north of the UK, 7 to 10, possibly 11 or 12 across the far south west. Then as we
01:02 move through into the evening time, the rain starts to move in from the south west, the
01:07 winds start to pick up. We'll start to see gales around the coast. Heavy rain during
01:11 the early hours across Northern Ireland could lead to some localised flooding by the end
01:16 of the night and turning wet generally across much of the UK. Winds picking up for all as
01:21 the rain bumps into that colder air across the far north of England into southern Scotland.
01:26 We could see some snow over the higher ground too. So, a very unsettled start to Wednesday.
01:33 Temperatures increasing and around 10 degrees across southern counties, still chilly further
01:37 north with some icy stretches. But wet and windy weather across the country, gusts of
01:42 40 to 50 miles an hour quite widely, 60 to 70 around the coast. Some difficult travelling
01:48 conditions with Storm Gerrit as the day moves on. We could see some localised flooding as
01:54 well. Wind gusts staying strong throughout the day and continued risk of snow, particularly
01:58 over the higher ground of Scotland but perhaps to some lower levels too. This combined with
02:02 some very strong winds is likely to lead to some blizzards. Later on in the day, blustery
02:06 showers starting to move in from the west as the storm system starts to move in. Temperatures
02:13 on the mild side across England and Wales but given the strength of the wind and the
02:17 heavy rain, it will feel cooler than this, staying cold particularly across Scotland
02:21 and over the higher ground where it will continue to see that heavy snow. Blustery showers then
02:26 pushing in through the evening time. Very strong winds around the coast, still 60, 70
02:30 miles an hour, 40, 50 inland with these showers too. So, further disruption as we continue
02:36 towards the end of Wednesday and into the early hours of Thursday as well. The rain
02:41 and snow starting to ease away but some very strong winds for the Northern Isles. Into
02:46 Thursday, it slowly becomes a little calmer but it is unsettled. Blustery showers, strong
02:53 winds continue across the UK, showery rain for many, particularly across parts of England
02:58 and Wales and rumbles of thunder in there too. So, do continue to take care travelling
03:03 on Thursday as well. Gusty winds particularly around the coast over the higher ground. Temperatures
03:08 a little cooler, so showers following a snow still across parts of Scotland around 8 or
03:13 9 Celsius, still mild in the far south. So, it is remaining very unsettled as we move
03:19 through the week, particularly through tonight and into Wednesday as Storm Gerrit moves in.
03:24 So, do take extra care if you are travelling over the next few days and for more information
