00:00 Lisa Ashton is a four-time women's world dance champion.
00:06 However, her titles are not what truly set her apart.
00:10 Miss Ashton is best known for achieving a historic milestone.
00:13 The 51-year-old from Lancashire was the first woman to ever qualify for the PDC,
00:19 a major tour that up until then was men only.
00:22 She's been on record saying that she does not expect or want special treatment on the tour when competing against men.
00:29 I spoke to current women's world number two Fallon Sherrick
00:33 on how women feel in major tournaments when going up against the men.
00:38 Well, hopefully in the future it won't be such a big deal if a woman wins on stage or anything like that
00:44 because it will just become the norm.
00:46 So hopefully, you know, the more women that win on TV, the less pressure it's on me and all of that.
00:51 So that's why I want more women to keep winning and just push the darts in general.
00:56 No, she's really special and she really knows how to sort of dish it out at the right times.
01:02 And I was grateful sort of in a way that she hit them dull moments the night where she just struggled to find it.
01:10 I've won big tournaments, I know what it takes to win.
01:13 She's won on obviously the match play stage.
01:17 But not only that, the way she holds herself.
01:20 You look at them world championship wins, you look at all that and it's just signs of a champion, you know.
01:25 And sometimes I look at her and I think, yeah, you can practice in this game and make yourself better.
01:31 But when you've got greatness like that, I think sometimes you're born with it also.
01:36 So, yeah, she's very special.
01:39 The Grand Slam of darts in Wolverhampton has become a fantastic event for women to make history.
01:46 This year's tournament has already seen a new record set with Bo Greaves and Fallon Sherrick winning a group game.
01:53 It marked the first time two women have won both on the same day in a televised match.
02:00 And obviously you had the other side of the spectrum, Lisa Ashton last year, you've got Bo Greaves this year.
02:06 What's that like for women's darts? You've gone from one of the oldest to one of the youngest in the game.
02:11 It must be fantastic to see there's so much range of talent in the women's game.
02:15 No, it's great because it just proves the standards getting better and the younger generations wanting to play.
02:20 It's not just the same old faces that you see all the time.
02:23 And, you know, we still got Makuri playing in the world as well.
02:25 That's going to be entertaining because Makuri can produce a great game as well.
02:29 So let's not forget her as well.
02:30 Definitely a really good preparation going into it because obviously you're playing high standard people in it.
02:35 So going into the world, whoever I draw is going to be a good standard.
02:38 So having the stage practice and playing the good games is always good to have that preparation.
02:45 As more emerging women darts players are breaking the surface and reaching the highest levels in the sport,
02:52 the Grand Slam and other events similar deserve huge credit for providing the platform.
02:58 And one thing for certain is the future of women's darts is in great hands.
