00:00Hello, yes, reporting from a very cold South London today.
00:04It appears there is a go-ahead for the Docklands Light Railway, also known as the DLR, to be extended to Thamesmead.
00:13According to a report by BBC London, the Treasury will back the plan, saying it could lead to 25,000 new homes and up to 10,000 new jobs in the area too.
00:25The extension to the DLR would see a new line built from Galleon's Reach to a new station at Becton Riverside and then across the river to Thamesmead as well.
00:38Transport for London has welcomed the news the government plans to back the extension, saying it would create green, liveable neighbourhoods and improve connectivity in the area as well.
00:51This is part of the Greenbelt plan the government are planning and right here in London too.
00:57Now, last month, Thamesmead was one of the areas shortlisted for the construction of a new town under the Housing Secretary's plan to get Britain building.
01:10Transport for London expects the construction of the extension to begin in 2027, with customers using it in the early 2030s.
01:19Now, the Freedom Pass debate is raging on.
01:22Older residents across London are currently able to travel for free on buses, the Tube and other Transport for London services at certain times under two schemes funded by Transport for London and London Councils.
01:38However, the perk has come under scrutiny over the cost to run the schemes and fairness as well.
01:44Transport for London's 60-plus Oysterguard provides free travel on services after 9am on weekdays all day and on weekends and bank holidays as well.
01:55On most National Rail services, free travel starts after 9.30 on weekdays and is available at any time on weekends.
02:04Now, when residents turn 66, they qualify for the Freedom Pass funded by London Councils, which follows the same time restrictions.
02:14And finally, the artist behind the latest mural unveiled at Brixton Tube Station has said they aimed to capture the aliveness of the local area.
02:24Now, spanning the entrance above the stairs, the congregation combines text and imagery across 20 scenes reflecting Brixton's history, its influential figures, well-known landmarks and history as well.
02:39Artist Rudy Lowe said Brixton was a very special place in London and also said that as soon as you step out of the Tube Station in that South London area,
02:49there's such a rich sensorial experience and it was that that the artist wanted to transmute into a painting.
