00:00 The Harvard Sports Club has formed part of the backbone of TNT's sporting culture
00:04 from racing athletes in cricket to hockey. The club can now boast of
00:08 reaching a landmark of 80 years of existence. However, has it been smooth
00:14 sailing and how has the club managed to stay relevant from 1943 to 2023 so far?
00:21 Harvard has been at the forefront. Its members have been at the head of the
00:25 class in business and of course community activities to support an
00:29 active role in sport which started in cricket way back in 1943 as mentioned
00:34 before and then football before embracing such other areas as hockey,
00:38 tennis, rugby, basketball. Indeed while several other clubs have fallen by the
00:44 wayside, Harvard has shown that it intends to continue being a giant among social
00:48 institutions and the reduction of the women to the club in 2002 underscores.
00:52 Adapting to the times has been difficult for the club as it tries to meet the
00:56 desires of the sporting public but organizers are aware of the challenges
01:00 facing them and as such they're on a recruiting drive for new talent.
01:05 I proceed to justify the choice of the theme survival, the legacy of the Harvard
01:11 Club. In 1993 we had a membership of over 500. Today it's less than 300.
01:26 In 1993 the Harvard Club fielded four teams in the North Zone Cricket League in Trinidad and
01:37 Tobago. Today we have none. Despite these challenges of the club still produces
01:43 athletes that represented the country in hockey and rugby as the fire has
01:47 evidently not left those willing to fight for the spirit of the club.
01:52 Harvard is both a name and a landmark thus making the choice of your team for
01:57 this celebration survival. The legacy of the Harvard Club, quite appropriate.
02:03 Harvard is the name that has contributed immensely to the sporting landscape of
02:07 this country in several sporting disciplines including cricket, rugby,
02:12 football and hockey. And while the most famous product of this sporting
02:16 institution might be the Prince of Port of Spain, cricket and ledger Brian Arrow,
02:21 other names like Jamil Ali, Pat C. Steele, Billy Samuel, Ollie Carrington and
02:27 Dwight Bay also easily come to mind. For now though they are looking for new
02:32 blood to fill the pipelines of their club that seeks to reach 100 years of
02:36 existence. This is Ujjaju 4 TV6 Sport.
